Charming home and grounds, but off the beaten path. It is a large manor house that has been in the family for 350 years. We did not spend a great deal of time at the property, but the hostess was accomodating and pleasant. Excellent big Irish breakfast made to order with a large selection of fruit. The rooms are decorated with authentic antiques.

We stayed here for five wonderful nights. I can't say enough about how wonderful our hostess Catherine Gabbett was. She truly made us feel welcome. We had a twin bedded room. It was spacious and the beds were wonderfully comfortable. The attached bathroom was also big and had a heated towel rake. There was plenty of hot water and she even had the bathroom set up for a bubble bath. We also had great fun playing with her new puppy. Her husband Mickey was very friendly as well and walked around the yard with me telling me the names of the trees.

Breakfast was very good and she would ask us what we wanted cooked and made it to order. There were plenty of choices and you never walked away hungry. She never rushed us in any way.

Catherine had plenty of maps and other materials to help you have a wonderful time. She was always ready to give us suggestions and help us with directions. It was very close and easy to get to several places, Kilkenny city, Jerpoint Abbey, Waterford, Lismore etc. It was very nice to be able to stay someplace so comfortable and peaceful.

We loved it so much that we canceled the last part of our tour and stayed there 2 extra days.

My wife and I stayed for one night only - alas - and were bowled over by Ballaghtobin and the generous owner, Catherine Gabbett. The house is beautiful inside and out, and the fittings would grace many a five-star hotel. Very highly recommended.

My husband and I stayed at the Ballaghtobin on March 25th - the first night of our 10-day stay in Ireland. having never been to Ireland before, we wanted to get the real and authentic feel of rustic Irlend, so we drove right out of Dublin to Ballaghtobin the day we arrived. From the start, Catherine was helpful in answering my emails with questions about the area and reserving a room for us. Her hospitality was delightful and the accommodations were quaint and romantic, even with jet lag! This old farm house was such a great alternative to the other B&Bs we stayed at throughout the week - it even had old church remains on the grounds! The only downside was that it was 20-30 minutes to drive into downtown Kilkenny for dinner. But for a quiet, romantic experience - this is the place for you!
