“Charm Courtesy and comfort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013

Our overnight stay at the four star Garryvoe Hotel was an excellent choice recently.
Nestled on the beautifull shoreline overlooking Ballycotton Bay and the Historic Lighthouse, this was a superb haven for our one night treat, (my daughter and I.)
On check in- the Receptionist Tracy was welcomming and efficient in handling our reservation as there was a slight mix up, an oversight on the phone booking us into their sister hotel in nearby Ballycotton. However Tracy gracefully contacted the other Hotel to sort it out, as she couldn't find our reservation on her system and offered us a good rate and lovely room.
Later in the evening.
We enjoyed a delicious fish dish from the extensive evening menu in the athmostpheric Bar. Soft lighting and and a very nice waiter Mark added to our excellent service.

We asked Mark what he would reccommend, He said the ''fish was fresh'' and he was right! so right - that we could taste the seaweed from the fish. A large appetizing serving of crispy fries , mushy peas and freshly made tarter sauce topped with a jucy wedge of lemon perfectly married the dish together.
After a stroll on the beach outside the Hotel we ordered a bottle or Merlot and retired to the upstairs seating area to savour the setting sun slowely slide beyond the horizon, shadowing the incomming tide.
The bedroom was clean and comfy. and offered us a peacefull and refreshing nights sleep.

Breakfast was served with fresh fruit juice and a selection of cereal with the option of a cooked Irish Breakfast of our choice. Gleaming pots of coffee and tea was the trade mark of a well presented breakfast.
Crispy white table-cloths and polished cutlery enhanced our dining experience, the waitress was plesant and accommodating to all the early morning breakfast guests.

We left with a sweet taste for a return trip to Garryvoe Hotel in the not too distant future. This family run hotel is a prime example of Good management, professional staff and Good Guest Relations, and the location is superb.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view room when booking, and sample the Delicious fresh Con 'n' chips.

We stayed here for a wedding and we liked it so much, we added an extra night to our 3- night + 1 dinner deal. It was tremendous value. This is a real gem of a hotel with friendly staff, great facilities and the most wonderful views.

Room Tip: 2nd floor rooms with sea view are light and airy

I must say I had my wedding at Garryvoe Hotel, the hotel & location was faultless. Thanks to the Hotel & its staff the reception was fabulous! My husband and myself have been back to the Hotel more than once for long weekends etc. and I have to say its good reputation with us has remained. Even though other weddings were on while we were there the ensured we had a room away from the party so we had no noise late at night from people returning from the party to thier rooms. The rooms are immaculately clean and have beautiful views while the food there is exceptional.Their attention to detail is excellent. This hotel is definitely worth considering if you are visiting East Cork and surrounding areas. They always have special offers for couples, family, older people on their website. Check out their website and if its a special trip leave them know as they will ensure you have a memorable trip !

Room Tip: Ask for a view and check out their website for deals before booking. They do weddings alot but if y...

My husband and I booked a week in the hotel for our holiday in and around Cork. We had found the hotel online and loved the description, it promised so much. The facilities in the Health Club and swimming pool/sauna/steam room/hot tub/jogging ring, were second to none. High quality and clean as a whistle. Our room was spacious and clean and comfortable.

We were disappointed not to be able to eat in on the second night in the Lighthouse Bar (it was after midnight when we had arrived the previous night and we were warned that there would be no food available, when we called to say we'd been delayed).
The Bar was absolutely chocca with families and young children most of the evening and food stopped being served at quarter to nine! Apparently most of the customers had come from a nearby mobile holiday home camp. We did go through this area to a further small, dark bar area called The Cave, where we found space to eat a bar meal. Large screen TV and amber glass windows. The bar meal was acceptable, but nothing to write home about.

Our room was to the side of the Hotel on the fourth floor and overlooked the main entrance, which on night one, was very quiet and peaceful. Lovely to hear the waves lapping and have a part view of the sea and surrounding countryside too. A little balcony and sleeping with the French window open in the warm weather, was very relaxing.
Little did we know this was to be only one of two nights we could do that.

The Hotel seemed massive and as time went on, I discovered why. In total there were four wedding (thankfully no funerals) receptions held there during the week - these took over the main area and side bar (only open at receptions) in the afternoon and then adjourned to a ground floor function room for the evening do.

Call me old-fashioned, but if you're staying at a very nice four star hotel, the last thing you want is noise, disturbance and broken sleep, but unfortunately that's what we got from then on.

After their arrival, guests celebrating would step outside the main entrance and gather on the car park below our window, to have a cigarette or three. Unfortunately as the night wore on, the celebrations became louder and the cigs more frequent and their drinks were brought out with them. Around two-thirty a.m. was average for the noise to cease and allow us to finally go to sleep.

During one of the reception evenings, there was such a disturbance from guests who were much the worse for wear, swearing and shouting, opening and closing car doors and blaring their car horns in the car park frequently, all evening until four thirty a.m. This was with the windows tightly shut and all hopes of having the waves lull us to sleep had totally disappeared.

When my husband asked at reception the next morning if there had been any complaints of noise, he was told only one. He added our complaint about the noise and behaviour to the one made. The receptionist said sorry - but that was it!

No offer of a room change, or any type of formal apology. Not even a mention from the manager or an appearance of concern was made. Adding insult to injury, on the way out of the entrance, I passed a group of revellers from the previous evening - one of whom was rolling drunk and drinking from a beer bottle - around 10am.

If I had known the extent to which the hotel was used for wedding functions, with other guests seemingly not the priority, I would not have stayed there. Even the breakfast did not make up for it - fairly small portions and served by waitresses as opposed to buffet style.

The hotel is praised for its wedding receptions on Trip Advisor - but we weren't at a wedding, it was our annual holiday that we had saved for and I feel very disappointed and quite sad after looking forward to staying so much.

Garryvoe - it was a real shame. Ireland was absolutely beautiful, but I'm afraid you let us down.

Room Tip: Ask for a room well away from the main entrance and hotel car park. Check how many wedding reception...

We got married here an June of this year and I cannot recommend this hotel enough. The staff and wedding planner (Andreas) were an absolute pleasure to deal with. The food and service was exceptional! I couldn't fault them for anything. Just looking forward to returning to the hotel for our anniversary!
