I have just returned from a weekend spent in Garryvoe Hotel on 30 June - I grew up in East Cork but now live in Dublin. From the moment I approached the Reception Desk in the hotel, the level of pleasantness, service and courtesy was outstanding. Later on, we had a bracing walk on the beach followed by lunch in Shanagarry Pottery and a visit to Ballymaloe House. In the morning, we visited the Middleton Market which is on every Saturday morning - the hotel staff were very helpful and stored my cheese in the fridge. In the afternoon, I visited the leisure centre and spent quite a while in the hot-tub soaking up the sunshine. The hotel dining-room overlooks the sea but there is also the option of more informal bar food. The food was excellent with lots of fish - fresh from Ballycotton. After dinner, we were fortunate hear the music of James McGrath in the hotel bar. I don’t think anyone expected the quality of music with current and past favourites and also several of his own compositions. The night porter was also very helpful later on in the evening. We had a comfortable bedroom overlooking the sea - it was a lovely to open the curtains and see the view in the morning. East Cork is one of Irelands best kept secrets and Garryvoe Hotel lived up to all expectations.
