“Home is Mannix Point”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2011

It was our plan to have a holiday starting in Kerry. Our first port of call was in Adare, from there we planned to go to Cahirciveen and stay a night or two at Mannix Point Camping & Caravan Park before moving along the famous Ring of Kerry and then to West Cork. We were welcomed on site by Mortimer a very pleasant gentleman who couldn't be more helpful in showing us around the most beautiful setting for a caravan park situated at the edge of the Atlantic overlooking Valentia Island. There was a real turf fire in the Campers sitting room, with its walls adorned with musical instruments. Mortimer explained of his love for music and we were welcome to use any of the instruments including a beautiful piano. Had we been tenting, there was a kitchen fully equipped to cater for our every culinary need. Toilets & Showers were clean with fresh cut flowers and piped music within. Our stay was as stated only for two nights. We stayed for the whole holiday, with advice from Mortimer we saw something different every day, walks and sightseeing seemed to be his speciality. It was also within walking distance to the town, with its interesting shops and church.

I have spent two holidays in Mannix Point in 2008 and 2011 and it was a wonderful experience.
Such a perfect welcoming in this beautiful place!! If I had nothing booked for the day, I could still wander around the campsite, on the shore, or admire the flowers that Mortimer grow with attention, play with his two cats or just take pictures which are all like postcards!!
I had also so much to discover into the town or around: climbing mountains, go cycling on Valentia Island, discovering Irish pubs...It was impossible to have nothing to do unless I did it in purpose.. One of my best experience was to land on Skellig Island. It is such a beautiful place, like you have never seen before.
I had the chance to be at Mannix Point during the Music Festival at the beginning of August: Even if the festival only lasted three days in the whole town, it lasted for at least three weeks into the campsite! A lot of friends gather there to play music every night in the Campers Sitting Room and they usually invite you to take part and to play an instrument or sing a song you know. I learnt how to play the Bodhran there!!
Mannix Point is a place I would advise to anyone who would like to discover the Kerry Peninsula and to pitch a tent in a beautiful campsite. If you have a chance to go there, just take some times to talk with Mortimer Moriarty who has a lot to tell you about his area, you will learn a lot!!
,

Room Tip: Pitch your tent close to the shore, windy and beautiful sunsets!
