“Good hotel, good food, excellent staff .....needs to be freshened up”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2013

We stayed two nights. We got a warm welcome and were treated very well by staff. The food in the restaurant was very good. Wine prices however were more than a little over the top - Pouilly-Fume at €60 a bottle would raise an eyebrow or two among the many French visitors staying at the hotel. We settled for a nice Muscadet Sur Lie at €24 (€3 - €5 in French supermarkets!)
The room was clean, warm and comfortable but a tad small for a 'deluxe double'. No free wi-fi .
Parking was free and presented no problems.
Overall the hotel needs some redecoration. There is some evidence also that the Celtic Tiger has taken a hike - empty shops in the complex etc. However, the pubs in the town were lively and doing a good trade. Live music in many establishments.

Room Tip: Stay away from rooms facing on to the street. Traffic noise is an issue

We were in Clifden as it was the last point on our trip before going back to Dublin for our return flight home to North Carolina. We arrived late afternoon/early evening and more than a bit tired having been driving in a very rainy Connemara....quite different landscape compared to much of Ireland but an experience of which we shall have fond memories. We were warmly greeted at reception and assured we would have a quiet room. That promise was certainly honored. The restaurant in the hotel was closed and we were directed to walk across the parking area to the Station House Restaurant where we enjoyed a very nice meal. We returned to our room and had the balance of the evening to decompress. My only criticisms are the room could stand a bit of an update in decor as could the bathroom which was clean and functional but needed some sprucing up. The staff was extremely accommodating and more than made up for any other issues.

My 3rd time to stay in this hotel but what a change,,,,gone very drab & worn. We stayed on a 2 night B&B plus I evening meal, resturant not opened on Thursday but we could avail of Bar Food in Bar across from but part of hotel, receptionest gave us good advice as they have a new chef so we waited untill Friday to avail of meal. Breakfast friday morning wase fine however on saturday we had a way better choice !!!! This hotel is only functioning weekends. Room service, glasses ice whatever has to come from outside bar, staff very efficant & friendly doing their best. The meal we had on friday was fab the menu was very limited no chicken, pork, lamb!!! and the area covered in sheep & no vegitarian on offer however chef would accomodate, the food we got was top class but overall this hotel has dropped its standards a lot

Room Tip: Rooms are set up for famalies so pleanty of beds but little space

Staying here for weekend away with our 5yr old daughter. Very friendly and family orientated hotel. In house bar food or accross the courtyard to the Railway bar/Resteraunt. Children welcome there too, even after dark once they are mannerly.
FYI, we ate 2 nights in a row in Mitchell's Sea Food Resteraunt. Only 5min walk. Great steaks there too.
Pool in hotel is warm and clean too.
We'll be back !!!

We just stayed for one night here recently, the aim being just a night of relaxation, didn't use the spa or leisure centre.
Staff were very friendly and attentive, from the front desk to the bar to the restaurant.
Unfortunate that we had some bother with noise from other guests being allowed to run amok in the corridors, however the staff dealt with it and we were very happy with the way we were treated.
Also feel the room, being a wheelchair friendly room was not suitable simply because the bathroom sink is tiny, not a huge problem for a one night stay, but any longer and I would have requested a different room.
Will definitely return here.

We spent 2 nights here recently on a special deal and were treated wonderfully as usual. It made no difference that we paid less than usual, the service was top quality.
I regularly visit Clifden and like the Station House because of the location and the friendly relaxed staff. We ate in the Bar and the food was restaurant quality, reasonably priced also. Our room was surprisingly big and very comfortable and we were treated to a basket of fresh fruit as a welcome back! A special thanks to Nancy, the housekeeper.

Room Tip: The bar food is very good and beats most of the pub grub around.

This was my third stay in one year at Clifden Station House. The staff are very helpful and very welcoming. The rooms are clean and the breakfast is good (great tasty local sausages). The rooms however are starting to look tired especially the bathrooms needing renovation. We were assigned a family room which was a fold out couch with a 1 inch mattress which is ok for a 5 year old but not great for 11 year old.

Room Tip: If you are travelling with a child ask for room configuration of double and single bed rather than t...
