“Great hotel with great personal touch and atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2010

It has been a long time since we stayed in the hotel, it has not lost any of its charm, the food and service was excellent and the atmosphere was great. I would highly recommend it.

Abbeyglen made our party with family and friends a truly special and memorable occasion. From the moment we arrived until our departure, we felt special and important. From the champagne reception, excellent food and the fun and unbelievably entertainment in the bar, our stay will never be replicated. Thanks to Paul, Brian and all the staff for the red carpet treatment and their attention to detail. From Michael and Rosaleen

We stayed for two nights right in the beginning of our Ireland trip. We had a package with 2 dinners included. The hotel is quite pricy.
The building itself is lovely, full of charme and atmosphere. It's old, dusty (in a positive way) and charming. The room was really ok, the bathroom huge and classy. The sleeping room was big and the living room was also quite spacious. Everything was clean. The breakfast buffet was everything one could wish for, same goes for dinner.
Although I had lipstick stains on my glasses - on EVERY glass - I didn't mind. It was all a bit dusty and filthy but I didn't mind because it was part of the charme of this hotel.
The room was a bit noisy, but then again I'm really sensitive about that.

I didn't get the parrot in the reception area (from the hygienic point of view).

The TV in the living room was old and small and only had very few british and irish TV channels.

Certainly a nice place to stay for a weekend, but I wouldn't chose it for a longer stay.

We have just returned from an overall enjoyable stay in the Abbeyglen hotel. From the minute we arrived the staff were more than helpful and friendly. We met Paul, one of the owners and he was charming. We received a welcome chat and tips on where to visit in the area- invaluable!
The food in the restaurant was really delicious, dinner which we had on one evening and breakfast each morning. We would just like to warn travellers that this is not a hotel that serves bar food! The bar itself is cosy but needs an upgrade, there were complimentary scones and tea each afternoon but unfortunately no bar food! We found the prices of the evening meal to be on the expensive side - 49 euro pp plus 12.5% service charge so we therefore went in search of other fare in the town.
The drive past the hotel a few miles up Sky road is really spectacular. You can loop right around back to Clifden. The Connemara National park is well worth a visit, wear your rain gear! The trip to roundstone is also really nice and there are some nice beaches to have a walk on. A fabulous part of the country!

Stayed here with a small group. Amazing level of friendliness!, The Hotel is old and seems to have been in opperation for ever, which only adds to its style. I really think this is a hidden gem.

Only got to stay one night but we had a great time. We ended up with one of the rooms in the turret which was pretty amazing. Huge room with a very large, nicely appointed bathroom. The breakfast buffett is good with lots of choices. Don't miss the music and fun in bar at night :)
It is a short walk to Clifden but it is quite hilly so be prepared. The D'Arcy Monument is also a short somewhat steep walk up from the hotel. The views are well worth the hike.
