“Wonderful service, great atmospher”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2010

We arrived at the Abbeyglen thinking this would be another overstated hotel, but to our surprise we were humbled by the wonderful service from the happy 'multi-national' staff. Breakfast, tea and supper was wholesome and very tasty. Make sure you spend an evening in the bar, great Irish atmosphere, singing, dancing and just pure fun.
The dining room could do with more natural light, and the bedrooms a make over, but these matter little when you're enjoying yourself.

From the moment we arrived in Clifden, we knew our stay was going to be a special one.My partner and I love Connemara and have visited numerous times, our favourite time to arrive is about 4pm just as the evening starts to come and everything has a sense of calm.

Taking the direction of The Sky Road, we discuss the hotel wondering how it will be.We arrive at the gate and see the beautiful ivy decorated walls and descend down the drive to the castle, the setting is beautiful, there is such a sense of tranquility about the location. We park the car urgently, grab our things and dash into the hotel excited about the days that follow.

We were greeted on arrival and our bags taken care off, a very professional lady checked us in and pointed us into the direction of our room.I couldnt open the door fast enough and once my partner took over and we got in I went straight for the gorgeous bed....and stayed there for about fifteen minutes before getting up to investigate every nook and cranny and check everything out esp the bathroom (which contained a beautiful bath which was filled up a couple of times!)

It was time for dinner and we were starving! Our waiter, Pedro was very smart and professional, and very genuine asking is how our day had been and what are plans were while in the area,we were very impressed by the service at this stage. The menu was a mouth watering selection of delights and the dessert buffet was to die for, needless to say we were "stuffed" after our meals. After dinner we were invited to the bar to join in a sing song and to dance the night away, and that we did!!

Now that was on the first evening, the next few days we were treated to the same luxuries and delights...my partner and I will definitely return to try do the many things we didnt fit in such as massages and safari! Paul and Brian are the owners and are doing a fanastic job creating an experience like no other. It is an experience that everyone must have once in their lives, and once it is experienced nothing else will compare, that is why we will soon be returning to the warm, cosy Abbeyglen Castle Hotel!!!

We have just returned from one of the best weekends we've had in a long time.
The entertainment was superb Brian's singing is delightfull-loved bohemian rhapsody and the dancing competition and funny hats was hilarious. the staff are very friendly professional and helpful - special mention to Roger for his attentiveness to us.
The complimentary tea and scones each afternoon and the champagne and canope reception on the saturday evening was a lovely touch. we will def be back. Thanks to all the staff

Staying at The Abbeyglen it was a real treat, food was excellent, particularly the fish dishes. The staff very professional and the hotel itself was relaxed and 'homely'. Don't expect 5* luxury, it's got a whole lot more character than that. We are going back again!

My spouse and I were doing a road trip along the west coast of Ireland. Spent a fun evening at Abbeyglen. Met and talked to other guests, ended up playing snooker and drinking Guiness with another couple. Had a mix of ages, a little bit more on the older side. Could walk to town if you don't have mobility issues, would take about 15 mins. Rooms nicely decorated. Helicopter landing pad on site.

We loved every minute of our stay here. Our rooms were very charming and large. The service is exemplary. The owner introduced himself on our arrival and remembered all of our names throughout the weekend! The bartender and other staff members were very friendly as well. We will definitely return.
