“secure wild camping”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2012

As '' Long Time '' campers this is our fourth time to stay in this beautifully situated site. The site combines the joys of wild camping and the security of ''on site'' for the dedicated traveler.Run to a high standard by the owner who's strong ECO standards have minimal impact on the location or the fantastic views, this quiet site is one of the West's camping gem's. Our stays over the last few years have ranged from high summer to now, November, the welcome is always warm and genuine. Would always recommend it.

When you are tent camping in November a well drained pitch is the key to a succeful trip. Add to this fantastic views and clean well maintained quiet site, what can we say other than 10/10!
We cannot wait to return.

We have recently returned from another wonderful visit to Acton's. After staying for 18 nights, it was with great reluctance we had to pack the caravan and head home to NI. The location is just perfect with the most stunning scenery, we pitched overlooking Streamstown towards the 12 Bens and The Sky Road. We woke up to a different scene each morning and were lucky enough to eat our breakfast whilst watching a seal lazily swimming along and diving only to re-appear a short while later, pure bliss. The different sea birds were also keeping us happy. You have to experience Acton's for yourself. It is relaxing and renews your energy. What more could you want than to sit in total peace and quiet and watch the world go by, it is an ever changing scene and never the same twice. Kris and his family are great and any help you need is there. The drinking water is the best we have ever tasted. Roll on 2013 - we have already booked. Never have we stayed anywhere as good as this. Keep it green Kris your'e doing a great job. See you next year. Katie & Clive

We stayed for two nights at Acton's and could happily have stayed longer. When we arrived we were offered a choice of pitches and given advice on where to pitch to get the best view/shelter combination. We thought that the pitches were great, spacious and private. It was great to be able to borrow one of the firepits and have a cosy campfire at our pitch, not overlooked by anyone else.
The site itself is quiet, well away from busy roads and there's very little light pollution. We were treated to a lovely view of the stars as we were sitting by the fire. Very peaceful.
We would definitely recommend this campsite and hope to stay again in the future.

This is a great campsite in an amazing location.
We camped here for the August bank holiday weekend and although the campsite was full, it didn't feel crowded and our pitch still felt quite private. We had a generously sized, flat pitch for our tent with a really beautiful view of the sea.
The location of the site is stunning. It has its own beautiful private beach and plenty of good spots for fishing. When we were there almost everyone who fished caught enough for their dinner.
Our two dogs loved the campsite and we felt they were very welcome there. The beach at the campsite was a great spot for exercising them as it was so quiet. Almost everyone camping seemed to have brought their dogs with them and they were all very well behaved which was great to see.
All the kids on the campsite seemed to be having a great time when we were there. Some of the kids had built a den in the sand-dunes and spent most of the weekend playing in it. It looked like great fun! You would be able to give your kids a lot of freedom at this site as it is so safe and secluded.
The facilites at this campsite are basic but spotlessly clean. There are only two toilets and one shower. We never had to queue for the toilets while we were there and only queued for five minutes to use the shower which isn't too bad really.
My favourite part of camping at Actons was sitting around our campfire in the evenings, looking up at the stars and listening to the sea. It really felt like we were camping out in the wild rather than on a campsite.
We really enjoyed our stay at Actons and found it very hard to leave! We will definitely be back as I can't imagine finding a better campsite in Ireland.

I loved this campsite from the word go.
Very peaceful, very clean though quite basic.
Kris the owner was very helpful.

I enjoyed the scenery immensely and with few other pitches occupied it was quiet.

Beautiful beach with clear water onsite and the village pub about 1.5 miles away - nice little walk there and back.

One slight drawback to the site was the little road down to the actual pitches - it might cause concern for anyone trailing a caravan or in a very large camper van. As I had the tent in the car it was no problem for me.

The town of Clifden is about 9km away and is great for food and entertainment.

I would love to have stayed longer and will be back again.

This is the perfect camp site. Friendly, ecological, spacious, clean, and views to die for. A few steps to almost deserted pale sandy beaches and blue sea, with mountains in the distance too and a short drive to a beautiful little town, Clifden. Can't wait to come back.
