A delightful 200 year old farmhouse set in large grounds and set back from the road. We were welcomed personally by the owner Mary Fitzgerald who showed us to our spacious antique furnished rooms she then provided us with tea and biscuits in the beautifully furnished lounge (which is available for guests use) Mary has a wealth of knowledge of the surrounding area and was able to recommend to us a number of good pubs and restaurants in Adare. Each morning a traditional full Irish breakfast was cooked for us with unlimited tea, coffee, toast and delicious irish soda bread and butter. We enjoyed the warmth and hospitality that Mary provided and would recommend Clonunion House.

“perfect honeymoon”

Clonunion House

My wife and I found Clonunion House entirely by luck on our honeymoon a few years ago. The restored horse ranch was owned by the Fitzgeralds, with whom we fell in love for their hospitality and their friendliness. The rooms were large, comfortable, and filled with antiques, but we were easily distracted by the smell of Mrs. Fitzgerald's fresh bread baking each evening. As with other B&Bs, we enjoyed a grand traditional Irish breakfast and afternoon tea. And we spent many memorable hours exploring the grounds. There we found sheep and horses at pasture, an herb garden, and restored stables. To the back was an interesting surprise - a graveyard of past champion horses sired and raised on the ranch, each headstone shaped like a horseshoe with the inhabitant's name and particulars. We used Clonunion House as our base to explore the lovely region around Adare - surely one of the prettiest and most authentic looking "traditional" Irish villages. In addition to our honeymoon, we also celebrated my wife's birthday while there. Mrs. Fitzgerald was most helpful in suggesting, and even contacting on our behalf, the Bunratty Castle where we celebrated her birthday party. On our last, sad, day at Clonunion House, we found a present wrapped on the side board in our room. It was a gift from our hosts - a small tapestry we treasure still today. We most certainly will return as soon as possible!Bobby & Jo CollinsU.S.A.
