First, delayed flight, second, lost luggage, third wrong rental car!

So the trip started out great! With that in mind and set aside we traveled to our destination, Springfield Castle. With our check in time far off we decided to pull out the map and see what was around. Castle Matrix sounded great so we tried to find it. Impossible for new comers. Luckily a nice lad gave us directions (right off N21 into an densly overgrown driveway). The Irish never lie!

Driving up it was clear it could use a weed eater or some good landscaping but the structure itself was incredible. After we had to wait some time in the driveway (20 minutes) for the host to prepare the inside we were finally greeted by 5 dogs and a cat. Thus and finally the tour began and so did the ordors!

If you can make it past the intial shock and the mess downstairs you be in for a shock as you travel up the stairs. The tour guide likes movies so be prepared for some connections between Hollywood and her home! She also is a bit of a conspriacy theorist. All that aside, she means well and does her best to give you some history about the castle(we woke her at noon so maybe she wasn't all together so early in the day). However the library, the rooftop, the bathroom and stream running by are all worth a picture.

I have to admit, after all the troubles to start the trip it gave us all a good laugh and took our minds into a different place.

One secret tip, make sure you see the case holding her late husbands medals and awards, quite inpressive! and another, tell her you feel like you've been there before! She swore I was! GOOD LUCK!

my visit to Castle Matrix was an enjoyable one. when we climbed the old tower to the old chapel we got to make a wish and ring the bell. I got to play the old piano and my daughter the old harp by candle light. had a great chat with a local business man at dinner. The Breakfast was a delight and the tour very informative one... my accomodations were grand complete with a veranda The hosts were really nice & the dogs mentioned were nice too. was an enjoyable stop. The B&B is not operational at this time but the tour is still possible i think by appointment .

“Matrix, diamond in dust.”

The castle is a wonder. If one can only get past the stench of the dogs that the present host allows to foul up this Ireland treasure, one's socks will be knocked off by the work of her late husband.
My husband's very favorite piece of Ireland!

It is so disappointing to see national treasures strewn with plastic buckets, mini trampolines, and other 21st century garbage.

Just be patient; once the tour hits the library, you'll know your stop was worth it.

Then rush back to your accomodations to take a bath...
