“Great Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2007

I have stayed at the Dunraven Arms a number of times in recent years and i must say it is a charming and traditional hotel. The service i have always found first class and the rooms are very impressive especially the new wing which houses the suits. I would strongly recommed it if you are looking for a quiet break away from it all. The breakfast is good and again very irish and the Guinness is first class in the bar.

We stayed in the Dunraven Arms for one night only on our way to Kenmare. After reading so many positive reviews on this hotel we were really looking forward to our stay. Unfortunately the hotel did not live up to our expectations. We found the hotel to be a bit run down and uncared for rather than the 'olde worlde' we were lead to expect. The room was nothing like what was advertised and we couldn't find the dressing room which they claim is in every room. Food was average, as was the service.

The Dunraven is an adorable inn in an adorable village. This is not a spectacular hotel--but it is an authentic country inn. The floors creak, the walls have old art, the dining room has that old world feeling and the bedrooms and bathrooms do as well.

The service is spotty. For dinner and breakfast we found the most delightful staff--people really going out of their way to make our meals pleasant. The young lady who checked us in didn't smile and was not welcoming.

My bedroom was spacious with authentic furniture and art--but not spectacular. The gym was nothing special. The back garden was beautiful.

Here is my caveat: Adare is adorable but tiny. You can see the whole village in 20 minutes. We drove to Limerick (the city) and it was an unimpressive, filthy city. I would only stay here one night as a stopping off place on your way to some place else.

For golfers make sure to play the courses at the Adare Country House. What a spectacular experience. We enjoyed the hotel restaurant and liked even more our dinner at the Wild Geese across the road.

  • Liked — Old world country inn feeling
  • Disliked — Not much to do in Adare for more than one day
