During a trip to Ireland in the summer of 2006, my (now) wife and I had the pleasure of staying at The Mustard Seed Inn at Echo Lodge. It was a top notch experience on every level.

After a long and rainy drive, we arrived to a beautiful mansion type house, with a sprawling green lawn and its own garden which we walked through to unwind. The Inn is not in a touristy area and is essentially the only thing around. A nearby town is also very picturesque and is called Adare.

The Inn owner, Daniel, greeted us warmly and was quick to offer some nice wine while we checked it. The Inn is very comfortable and at the same time, very ornately decorated with furnishings and art from all over the world. Our room was very pretty, clean and overlooked the garden. Breakfast was great and dinner was probably the best meal we had on the whole trip. Granted, Ireland is not known for it's cuisine but the food at the Mustard Seed is excellent.

All in all, we are very glad we went a little out of the way to spend time here. If you fly into Shannon airport, it is not too far actually.

I have been to luck to stay in many lovely hotels but I would have to say this is my all time favourite. It comes as a whole package. The house from the minute you step inside the door is so inviting. There are open fires where you can loose yourself in a book. The bedrooms are totally different from most other hotels, being so comfortable and big with wonderful pictureuesque windows. What do I say about the food - simply the best I have ever had. The staff are inobtrusive but are always there should you need anything. If you want a stress free break away from it all, this is your place.

“Stylish country house in the south-west of Ireland”

I stayed at the Mustard Seed, Echo Lodge recently with some Japanese friends, a family of four. We loved the house, set in such natural surroundings, at the edge of a quiet Irish village and surrounded by rolling hills. We felt instantly at home in a beautiful suite of rooms and enjoyed the elegant feel of the library and sun-room for afternoon tea or pre-dinner drinks. Exploring the garden, with its abundance of colour and scent, was a treat and knowing that the salad that evening was freshly picked from the organic vegetable garden made dinner all the more delicious. Our evening in the dining room was a pleasure, the food being some of the best I've had in Ireland.

This place is far below average. It as though it is run on a shoestring budget. The shelf in the bathroom was held to the wall with tape. The stopper for the sink was attached to the faucet with dental floss. Three light bulbs were out in the room, giving it a dingy appearance, and were not replaced when asked. Water dripped from the faucet all night. The mattresses were sagging and I can't even begin to describe the contents of the pillows -- maybe they had coal lumps inside -- as they were the worst I have ever encountered. For 230 Euro you really would think they could afford feather pillows. Breakfast begins at 830. We had an early departure and asked if we could have a small continental breakfast before leaving and the answer was no because breakfast begins at 830. The restaurant food was ok but if you weren't ordering wine (and we weren't) service measurably deteriorated. I wouldn't stay here again and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless it gets a new proprietor.

What a lovely place to stay. This converted 19th century convent now is a beautifully furnished and decorated, comfortable hotel situated on finely landscaped grounds, all in all worthy of Architectural Digest. Staying there is like paying a visit to a wealthy Irish country home. The owner, Dan Mullane, is charming and put us in a handsome two-room suite with the living area below opening onto a charming patio and a bedroom and bath upstairs. Dinner at the Mustard Seed was a culinary treat and one of the best of our trip. Make sure you make your dinner reservation when you book your room because the restaurant is open to the public and very popular.
