“Great hotel lovely setting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2014

Had a great two day break with my mom & daughters in Kinsale, we were upgraded to the lodges which was a great surprise, these lodges are modern, spacious & perfect for families. We had 3 bedrooms all ensuite, leaving area kitchenette, dining area & two areas outside to sit if you wish. We had breakfast both mornings in the hotel, nice selection of produce but very busy so my advise is to eat early. We found it a great location for sightseeing around The Kinsale Area, we will be back

Beautiful hotel and grounds. Wish i could have stayed longer.
Kids loved the pool and we loved the setting and shuttle to town (although I think the pricing is a little high per person).

Staff was great.

We stayed here for two nights for a family occasion. The hotel is quite a long way out of Kinsale and not particularly easy to find. The location is stunning though with lovely coastal views. The room was comfortable but the lighting in the bathroom was so poor it was risky having a shave.

The WiFi is very poor and limited, The lifts were slow although in fairness only one was working.

The highlight is the breakfast in a large airy room with great views and wonderful selection of fresh food.

In my view a bit pricey for what was on offer.

Room Tip: Higher floors have better views but the lifts are a bit slow.

What a wonderful experience we had recently at family wedding , the reception staff met us smilingly and unflustered , when they explained the outdoor wedding we had been expecting was, due to the weather , have to be moved indoors , they set us up in the bar with teas coffees etc while we waited , no fuss , we went on to the room itself for the ceremony, what a transformation !! how hard the staff worked to make it happen so quickly , it set the tone for the whole day , nothing was too much trouble , all needs were met in a friendly professional manner , the attentive staff , could not have done more for us , the manager made his rounds during the reception and was so welcoming and attentive , it was just brilliant ... I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to anyone and have been back several times for a quick lunch and more leisurely dinner in magnificent surroundings yet so close to Cork City .. thank you again just loved the experience

My self & my family just canceled our stay due to the way the staff member spoke to me over the phone .

My wife called Sunday night to book for Monday even for our family . We where advised by the lady on reservations that they had plenty rooms and the fee would be €139 for the 1 night stay .

We called this morning to confirm the booking to be told that we where not quoted the above rate and the room would be over €210 .

We advised the above but the lady on the phone stated they do no such rate . It felt as of I was being called a liar and the member of staff was borderline argumentative .

After an almost argument on the phone the original price quoted was then give so we booked .

After starting the journey to the hotel I called and canceled due to the way I was spoken to and didn't feel comfortable spending a night in the hotel feeling this way .

I am very sorry to say I won't be back after staying in your hotel a number of times .

Val and I had our wedding in the Carlton on the 12th of July 2014. As i'm from Tipperary and Val from Cork we headed to the Carlton with both families on the Friday, we had the wedding Cermony and reception on the Saturday and BBQ on the Sunday.OMG what a weekend pure amazing, weather, views, hotel ,hotel rooms and food 100% for everything. We cannot say how much we want to thank the Management and staff in the hotel. They made us all feel so welcome they couldn't do enough for us even the 14 kids weren't a bother to the hotel.Rob General Manager,Clarie Weddings & Events Executive and Laura Assistant Sales & Marketing Manager they were amazing i would recommend them to anyone there 100% at what they did for us we couldn't put into words, it was an amazing weekend i'll never forget and will defo recommend this Hotel for weddings, stay overs and BBQ's.

OK, so here we were, 2 Couples, coming from a super-tiny sub-par hotel room in Dublin, to the 2nd Hotel of our 5-City IRELAND vacation ... The setting of this hotel is quite isolated. The lobby is bright & airy with very lovely bay & countryside views (fortunately we had brilliant sunny weather while we were there). 1st floor room had a nice view, and the views were stunning in from the 2nd floor room. Right off the bat, we greatly appreciated the large modern bedrooms & relished the spacious spa-like bathrooms featuring a large shower w/ great water pressure, and large bathtub. The bathrooms are very dark though & very impractical for applying makeup or treating yourself to an in-suite self-facial. Some lamps in the bedroom worked, some didn't, kinda dark. Beds comfy, linens & towels clean. Single-User wifi was more annoying that you'd expect, since we were frequently swapping back and forth between devices / photos / messages / directions / etc, and frequently getting disconnected, with a the log-in process didn't always work. When our guys left us for a golf day at Old Head (and visiting the 9/11 memorial), we ended up feeling trapped at the hotel, and not very comfortable in our surroundings , wandering around aimlessly for a couple hours. We explored the hotel grounds. We tried to make a last-minute spa appt, but none available for 2 people at same time. And after missing breakfast we found we couldn't get snacks/drinks onsite for 2+ hours until around 1PM, at which point the bar staff was nice and unobtrusive, and we enjoyed a bottle of wine & the view from the upstairs deck. We did use the shuttle to/fro town each day, but felt it should be free-of-charge instead of 3Euro per person each way (24Euro round-trip for our group of 4). Kinsale itself was a cute little harbor town; feeling very much like a vacation spot for the Irish. Our favorite pub was Bullmans. And we enjoyed exploring the buildings & grounds of Fort Charles. We didn't enjoy the noise of wedding guests strolling past & fighting in front of our 1st floor window [open for coolness] during the wee hours of the morn. All in all, I'd probably recommend this hotel to others, but I really haven't researched the area at all to see what else is out there.

Room Tip: DEFINITELY choose a back room overlooking the bay, period. Better views from 2nd floor or above, esp...
