After a lot of hemming and hawing over Kinsale we finally settled on the Chart House and we are very happy that we did. The location is perfect--a five minute walk to the center of town, but on a quiet side street about 100 meters off the water. There is free street parking right in front and we never had a problem finding a space.
In our seven weeks on the road Mary and Billy were our favorite hosts. You hear about the craic in Ireland and we didn't find much of that in the pubs (maybe we didn't stay late enough) but you will find it with Mary and Billy if you give them the slightest opening. We could have chatted with them during our entire stay. Instead we took the walking tour of town which was as fun as it was informative and a day-long driving tour of the little towns to the south and west of Kinsale. Each bend in the road was a new treat. We were intrigued by this part of Ireland after reading McCarthy's bar by the late Pete McCarthy and it did not disappoint.
Our room at the Charthouse was spacious and well appointed, immaculately clean and very quiet when it needed to be. Breakfast was perfectly prepared and made extra special with the addition of Billy's Irish Mist to Mary's porridge. This B&B is probably a "4" in other circumstances but the hosts make it a "5".
