We arrived at The Lighthouse, no one was in, unfortunately we did not have the telephone number with us for Carmel so walked down into the town to the Tourist Board for her number, they kindly let us use their phone and she said she would be back in 10 minutes. She arrived in a fluster and palmed us on to a family friend/relative to show us around and choose our rooms.
She clearly couldn't be bothered with us.

Our room was dark, the bed felt damp and some of the wallpaper was peeling of the walls. The shower room was spacious and very dated, also there was just a bit of plastic up against the window as curtaining. Breakfast was ok and a lot of the china on the table was chipped also the spoon in the salt pot was green with some form of reaction to the damp salt on the spoon, the pepper was also damp.
We booked this B & B because of the good reviews and photos on the web site, which has been very cleverly done. I wish we had thought about going through the tourist board for recommendations which we will do next time.

We spent 3 nights there and I couldn't wait to leave.

I wish that I had seen these reviews before making this booking. The host, Carmel, was rude when we arrived, at first not even answering the door. There was a note on the door telling people to call someone else for access, but we had no cell phone, and were not about to go all the way back down into town to make a phone call. Besides, we knew that someone was in the house, because the door was open and saw someone go past..

We had booked a room without breakfast. The room was small and cramped, which we didn't mind, but had a broken toilet seat, and was dirty, which we certainly did mind. We had no hot water the next morning in the shower. Carmel was nowhere to be found most of the time.

The overall appearance is tired, worn, and dirty, not the Victorian elegance that was claimed. We were very grateful that we had only booked one night.

We went as a family group of 4 adults. The B&s is located on a steep hill and parking is difficult though not impossible. We had a galaxy van and managed to park on the hill, although it was challenging!
The owner if friendly, although a little strange - we found she sang a lot and although some in our party liked her, others didn't!

We had the red room - each room has coloured ribbon on hte door to help you remember when you come back drunk (her words not ours - we're t-total). Our room was double aspect but was so small we had no wardrobe - we had to hang our clothes from the coat stand!! The bathroom had no window and was very small but adequate.
The other room our family had was bigger but very dark. Some of the other rooms were much brighter and bigger with large skylight windows so it is hot and miss as to which room you get I think.
Breakfasts were wonderful and the best porridge I have ever had, made with cream not milk.
It is a fair walk to the B&B up the hill, and is not suitable for anyone with any problems with walking, breathing etc.
We would go back as by Kinsale prices it is cheap, but maynot suit everyone. There are some nice touches - crystal decanters in your room with mineral water in them and the beds were comfortable.
I don't imagine many Americans would like it hear, but by UK standards it's not bad!

I booked this for my parents for 3 nights, I booked by e-mail and gave my cc details, I received a reply and everything seemed fine, when my parents arrived at the B & B they were advised there had been a flood, ( seriously doubt there was) and that the B &B had e-mailed myself two days previous to this???? I received no e-mail, I even had rang the host and she had said don;t worry there will be no problem. They then booked them into a hotel, which was nice for them to do this, but the next day my parents were booted out, because the B &B had only booked them for 1 night, the original booking for the B &B was for 3 nights., they we;re moved from piller to post, awfull, and they never get away, I think its a disgrace/. Don't book this B & B and don't trust them, you'll end up with no place to stay.

My fiance and his parents, sister, and brother-in-law drove all around Ireland for 9 days. We stayed in a lot of B&Bs along the way and The Lighthouse probably ranked the lowest for me. But when I came here to write my review, I realized that I liked it more than the reviewers before me did!

It is a cute house at the top of a steep hill. I am a runner so I actually enjoyed the hill!! I went for an early morning run along the water and ended it trying to sprint up the hill. It is steep but our whole group didn't have a problem with it.

Parking is a little tight and the hill does make it a bit precarious. We had three cars with our group and were able to park 2 in the driveways and one on the street so that worked out, but when we arrived we weren't sure what to do with our cars so we idled in a nearby neighborhood until someone in our group was able to talk to the owner of the B&B.

The inside of the house is quaint - kind of Victorian. The shower stall is very small but adequate. The one thing that freaked me out was spiders. I noticed one spider on the ceiling, and then I let my eyes glide over to each of the corners in the room......and found 6 or 7 more. As I cowered in the bathroom, my fiance got rid of them for me (not his favorite thing but he didn't want to see me cry).

The Lighthouse is not far from town. We walked home from everywhere since Kinsale is a small town. I recommend the Greyhound Bar in town.

Breakfast was prepared on time and it was good.
