“Great all around stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2007

This hotel had huge rooms and comfortable beds. It's just around the corner from the main shopping and eating area of Kinsale. The staff was everything but rude and went out of their way to share menus from local restaurant (covering a price range - and not assuming we would go to the most expensive place in town) as well as print out directions to our next destination. Breakfast we great as well. If you're looking to stay in a place that's 100 years old, this isn't for you. If you're looking for clean, comfortable, friendly, and reasonably priced, this is exactly the place for you.

When we arrived in Kinsale we went to a small hotel in town and looked at the rooms but they were too cramped and we asked the desk clerk if there was any other rooms that were larger. She said follow me! She walked us to Friars Lodge and said her family runs the lodge and it has larger rooms,

The rooms were triple the size of a normal hotel room and they were immaculate. The Lodge has off street private parking in the courtyard and it is centrally located in Kinsale.
The lobby has the feel of a B&B common room and they offered us a glass of wine on arrival. We were more than happy and stayed two nights.

The lodging included breakfast which was very good with a varied menu but had the feel of a hotel resturaunt.

If we return to Kinsale we would gladly stay at the Friars Lodge.

Comfortable rooms very well equipped, but no view. Quiet location but walking distance to the bars etc. Kinsale is lively and the location of Friars Lodge is good as it is quiet and has plenty of car parking. Would stay there again.

My husband and I stayed here for two nights. This is our second visit to Kinsale. This would not be my choice of places to stay should we visit again. The staff just was a little too rude.

I unfortunately only stayed one night at this fab B&B, was recommended by a friend and was very impressed by the friendliness of the staff and the lovely place, this is better than a few 4*hotels Ive stayed in, I had booked a Twin Rm but at the last minute my friend couldnt come and despite the very short notice, they were very accomadting and only charged me Single Rate even though they still left me in the same room which was a very spaciuos clean and well decorated family room! Heaven!! Breakfast was just lovely and really got a good feel about the place and will be returning there when I go to Kinsale again.

We arrived here late (21:30hrs,) on a Tuesday evening from the Rosslare ferry which got in about 18:30 hrs. As we had not eaten the lady working that evening kindly phoned one of the local recommended restaurants and managed to book us a table. As we did not know the area, she then jumped in her car and led us to the restaurant! A wonderful friendly introduction to a fabulous guest house that would be 4-5* if a hotel. There was everything you could wish for in the room, which was wonderfully clean, immaculately decorated and very big- perfect in every way- you could even ask for different types of pillow, from anti- allergic to duck down!
The breakfast was delicious with plenty of choice and the hospitality 100% ! I would thoroughly recommend this place and at 100 euros per room, including breakfast, was the cheapest in our stay in Ireland.
