“Great place to visit”

Landfall House Bed and Breakfast

We have just returned from a week in Kinsale, Co Cork, where we stayed in Landfall House. I recommend this bed and breakfast to anyone wishing for a lovely, friendly place to stay. The couple who run it are so welcoming, you feel you are coming home! The house is spotlessly clean, and the breakfasts are something else! The choice was amazing, ranging from the "full Irish", to scrambled eggs with smoked salmon, to the most delicious pancakes. The house is situated a short walk from the town, which was nice, because it was quiet and peaceful. I will definitely be going back.

Landfall house is a wonderful place to stay! The rooms are big, clean, with contemporary decor and wonderful views. Breakfast is great with a good selection, and your host is excellent. The only problem would be if you don't have a car, as it is a little outside of the town. I'm sure you could walk into town, but it would be at least 20 minutes.

My girlfriend and I have just returned from a week's holiday driving round southern Ireland. We were blessed with a week of blazing weather and were lucky to escape sunburn - who would think of packing suntan lotion for an April holiday in Ireland!

Kinsale proved a good base to explore the southern coastal area of Ireland. It's on the R600 road straight from Cork Airport, probably about a 20 minute drive. The map on the B&B website may look a little confusing but it's entirely accurate if you follow it religiously. Also, don't lose faith when you encounter narrow streets thinking they must be one-way - this is Ireland after all and everyone just good-naturedly takes their turn!

The tradeoff of not being in the middle of town is the spectacular view from the B&B's vantage point above the town. Most bedrooms and the breakfast room have stunning views over the river Brandon and town. Walking into town takes about 10-15 minutes but walking back up the hill takes a bit longer! I would suggest driving and making use of the free carpark just on the edge of town, which Margo and family will direct you to.

What makes the Irish B&B experience special is their own brand of hospitality and the ability to make you feel very welcome in their home. A special mention must go to Jamie who gave us our first taste of this famous Irish hospitality and this continued throughout our stay at Landfall.

Our room was large and comfortable complemented by a clean bathroom. The view from our window was fantastic, overlooking the river. The breakfast menu showed variety and big portions such that we didn't eat lunch.

The other gem is to pick Margo's brains as to what to see in the area. Kinsale itself is quite small and the 2 outstanding visitor attractions are Charles Fort (make sure you catch the tours included in the price of entry to bring the place alive) and the boat tour from the harbour. We also used Landfall as a base for the the coastal drive (Margo will tell you about the hidden locals' gems such as Glandore and Gougane Barra) and to visit Blarney.

Food-wise, Kinsale was a slight disappointment, truth be told. There wasn't much variety on the restaurant menus and a surprising lack of seafood choices. Once again, Margo came to the rescue by suggesting Hoby's, which provided our favourite meal of the week in Ireland. Their seafood was outstanding. I can personally recommend the oysters (the waitress was kind enough to negotiate me a combination of 3 cold and 3 hot oysters as I couldn't decide between them!) and the monkfish wrapped in smoked salmon in a roasted red pepper sauce. Dino's on the waterfront povides outstanding value and tastyt fish and chips.

Landfall House is a great B&B in a great location with great hospitality.

Had a great few days at this B&B. The views are spectacular and the rooms are a very good size. Everywhere very clean and welcoming. Margo (who owns the B&B) was helpful in offering us advice on where to go for good meals etc.

And it was sunny most of the time too - perfect!

“A Quiet & Private Setting...Such a good location!”

Landfall House Bed and Breakfast

Landfall House is a wonderful location for quickly getting in and out of the little village of Kinsale. Whether you walk or take a short drive, you're into town in no time. We chose to drive and park in a free parking lot on the edge of town. The streets are tight, so you'll definitely want to park and walk to tour and shop.

We only stayed one night in Kinsale and with our hostess Margo. We were dismayed that we had to leave and wished that we'd booked at least two nights in this comfortable B&B. Be sure to catch the view from the window down into the harbor. Wow! You can easily see the River Bandon, Atlantic Ocean, Kinsale Harbor and sweet Kinsale rooftops.

This B&B has several rooms, but only has one Family Room. If you are traveling with kids, this room will suit your needs well. We traveled with our two teens, 13 & 16 year olds, and we had plenty of room. Landfall House does have a website. We chose to email first for availability and then book our room over the phone. Note: Use a calling card when calling from the U.S. unless you have an international phone plan. Calls to book rooms (though only a few minutes in length) can get expensive!

Aside from anything water related (remember it's a harbor town), the big attraction is Charles Fort. This fort should not be missed. Take the time to take the tour. You won't be sorry! There are things to see and do in and around the water (fishing is big as the sun is setting), which we would have explored had we had one more night.

Add some relaxation to your schedule, take time to pause and enjoy this quaint spot in Ireland and stay 2-3 nights. Margo's house, her hospitality, the food (yummy!), and proximity to town, will be a great addition to your itinerary.
