My only regret for staying at the Pier House is that we didn't stay for 2 nights. We had a long day of traveling from Dublin to Kinsale and arrived at the Pier House at 7pm. The rooms were perfect, big, clean, airy, all with a small outside patio. The hosts were great, very friendly and breakfast was perfect as well! The breakfast room was so well decorated!! Would highly recommend a few nights here.

After a six week tour of Asia with another couple, the four of us flew from Beijing, China to Ireland arriving in Cork around 7:30 PM April 19. Since I knew we would be exhausted I had made the reservation for the Pier House on the internet several months previously intending to stay one night and then, when rested, move on. When we arrived, in spite of the late hour (after going through customs, getting the car, etc.), Anne Hegarty, the proprietor, met us at the door and helped with our luggage while assuring us that the car would be fine. The Pier House was so delightful we stayed an extra day scrapping our intentions to free-lance for a day. Anne
is a delight and was very helpful to us in planning our sight-seeing for the next couple of days.

While not plush, the rooms were comfortable and pleasant with great bathrooms, there is a bright and cheery lounge with wireless internet
access, the grounds are impeccable and Anne's breakfast first-rate. They also have a hot tub and sauna although we didn't use them. And it is perfectly located for walking around the town. Staying at the Pier House is like staying at the fine home of old friends (except that old friends don't wait on you hand and foot!) We would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Kinsale or the neighboring towns.

Kindale's Pier House B & B is a jewel of a property. After traveling for over six weeks, we arrived in Ireland for a bit of R & R and that is precisely what we found in colorful Kinsale. Beautifully positioned in a private garden between the pier and Main Street, Pierhouse has a variety of rooms including some with balconies overlooking the bay. Our charming room was modern, very clean and well furnished with a nice, fresh bathroom with shower. The Irish breakfasts were yummy and memorable!! Fruit crepes, salmon with eggs, fresh fruits, juices, wonderful breads and a host of other choices are available each morning. In a center hall on the second floor, there is a hospitality center with an ice machine, wine glasses, chillers and other items so often needed but not available. They even have wireless access for those traveling with computers. Ann was very accommodating in guiding us to good restaurants and answering a myriad of other typical tourist questions. We were so content at the Pier House, we were fortunate to extend for an additional evening. We look forward to returning .

My husband and I had reserved 2 nights at the Pier House - DIRECTLY with the management and had given them our credit card to secure the room. We arrived tired and weary in Kinsale, found the B&B, walked through a yard by a large window in which we could see a man and a woman looking out at us (the management quarters), then rang the bell. No one appeared despite us having seen them. We rang again and this time a child appeared and asked if she could help us. We gave her our names and she said that they did not have a room for us. We asked to speak to someone in charge and she went back in the room (in which we were never allowed and had to wait on the stairs for about 15 minutes) and finally emerged saying that she had someone on the phone for us. She handed us the phone (and I can only presume this was the lady we'd seen inside who didn't want to face us directly) and we were told that the "computer had crashed and lost our reservations" and there was no room for us. My mom owns a B&B and I am in the hotel biz and I can guarantee you this does not happen. There is always a paper trail - particularly for such a small property. What I do think happened is that they were able to sell the room earlier for longer or a higher price and so "lost" our reservation - despite us having secured it with our MasterCard. To add insult to injury, when we asked the young girl if we could use the restroom facilities before we went out to look for another property (the woman did give us a recommendation for another B&B further away from town), she said she'd see, then again disappeared into the room, returning a few minutes later to say they did not have a restroom. The entire thing was grossly unprofessional and sadly disappointing.
