We had two nights in The Old Bank House and can safely say it was a genuine pleasure to stay in this beautiful guest house in Kinsale. The location is unbeatable, strolling distance to everything in the town and just a few minutes from the Scilly Walk. A previous reviewer mentioned the small rooms but that was not our experience at all - ours was luxurious, extremely comfortable with a very nice ensuite (trendy molton brown soaps etc) and a nice flat screen tv. It's a georgian building so of course you might not have the sound insulation you'd get in recently built hotels, but what you do get is a huge amount of ambience, character and attentive personal service and that's what counts. The breakfast is absolutely fantastic - crisp linen table cloths, a great selection of breads, juices, etc and a beautiful cooked breakfast that is quite clearly cooked to order - not kept warm under a lamp. The ingredients are local and first class. Highly recommended. We've stayed in one other B&B in Kinsale which did not come close to the overall experience in The Old Bank House. Worth every penny.

This is the very best place to stay in Kinsale. The service is second to none anywhere. The breakfast is wonderful and made to order. Everything is clean & it is quiet there. Many of the night spots are just a few doors away, but you avoid all the related noise. Four of us stayed there and we felt very "special" when we walked up to the beautiful door and used our key to unlock it and enter into this wonderful quaint hotel with a superb staff waiting to take care of us.

“Great location but tiny rooms with paper thin walls”

The hotel is conveniently located right in the centre of town. It doesn't have parking but that wasn't really an issue. The bedrooms are unbelievably small. We had booked a superior room which turned out to be too small to fit our luggage in let alone a portacot. Thankfully the manager was kind enough to put us into a slightly larger room.
The rooms themselves were quite stuffy not helped by Ireland's unseasonally warm weather. The rooms were also very noisy. You could hear everyone coming and going. When the people in the room next to ours walked around their room, our room shook. Once when I got up during the night, I could hear people snoring in two separate rooms.
Overall, I don't know that I thought it was great value for money.

We drove into Kinsale yesterday just to check it out.....we came the day before and there were no rooms to be had for Saturday night so we had to backtrack. On Sunday, however, it seemed that people were clearing out--weddings were over and sporting events were finished. After looking at 3 guesthouses, both 3 and 4 star, we decided upon the Old Bank house because of it's charm, cleanliness, and perfect location. There are no pubs nearby so it is quiet at night, but it is a bustling little town and you can get everywhere in a few minutes walking. 5 restaurants were identified for us to try based on our preferences, and the manager of the guesthouse took great pains to share with us what would be the most important sites to be seen. Lo and behold in the next several hours we came to meet several US couples who had also seen the beauty and the comfort afforded by this small guesthouse. It has a lift---a rarity in Ireland--and the most helpful staff ever. We love it here...will stay perhaps several days, and recommend it highly. We were able to do a little bargaining on price given that it is September, and recommend that also.

Imagine living in Georgian Times while staying in the Old Bank House, Kinsale. It's absolutely georgeous, with the most beautiful period pieces of furniture and soft furnishings.

My husband and I spent only two nights in the most divine bedroom decorated with every attention to detail. I only wish we had been staying two weeks!

Treat yourself to a visit and enjoy the beautiful countryside of Kinsale. Great resturants, serving the best of local produce.

You will receive a very warm welcome from Margaurite and her staff. Very nice people.
