“Lovely place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2007

I stayed here in April with my parents and sister having moved hotels mid weekend! (please don't stay at the Acton's hotel it is dreadful).

The receptionist was very friendly and the reception had a roaring fire and comfy seats. The rooms are lovely, very modern and clean with plasma TVs and up to date bathrooms.

We ate in the restaurant twice and the food was superb (the fish was excellent). The service was efficient and friendly. We also went into the Cafe attached to the hotel which is nice for a coffee or a light lunch.

It is in the middle of town next to the harbour so it was perfectly located for walking around the town.

I really enjoyed it and it rescued our weekend.

I haven’t stayed at the Blue Haven Hotel but as a regular visit to Kinsale I wanted to comment on the Cafe and restaurant.
The service in the restaurant has always been outstanding with delicious food and very friendly staff. On my last visit I was served by a young waitress called Vicky and was very impressed by her friendliness, helpfulness and depth of local knowledge. She gave me some very good advice about local amenities
I have also been in the café on several occasions and have found that the service was good and the the staff hard working always ready to help.
The food was excellent in both the restaurant and the café and I would recommend the café for breakfast. The eggs benedict was first-rate and they do a full range of coffees.
If you want to have good food in a relaxed atmosphere with first-rate staff I would fully recommend the Blue Haven hotel.

Just arrived home from a wonderful weekend in kinsale. Staying at the blue haven was an absolute delight. Our only problem was parking but understand that most places in kinsale have that problem.just read a review making very personal and slating comments about one of the ladies on reception, this is very unfair as i had many dealings with her and she was exceptionally friendy, polite, knew her job and the town well. Putting that aside the location was great and our room was lovely,a little on the small side. Breakfast was excellent and plentiful. All the staff we encountered were exceptionally friendly and willing to help. We will surely be staying here again. Keep up the good work everybody.

We stayed here for two nights recently, the hotel was undergoing renovations but we were well warned and found no noise nor inconvenience. The location was brilliant, smack bang in the centre of town and the rooms lovely. Cafe Blue is a delight, fabulous food served by bright friendly girls and we got good advice on day trips from the staff. Service was all round terrific, except for one receptionist who let the side down, couldn't bother her dizzy (bleached) blond head to help us, the younger girls were great though. The place to stay in Kinsale, do try it.

We stayed here for 3 nights and held our Wedding Reception in this wonderful hotel. The staff were very attentive, and went beyond the call of duty to make us and our guests feel welcome. The food in the restaurant has to be in our opinion the best we have ever tasted and the service outstanding. The rooms are tastefully decorated, clean and very comfortable and everything we needed was available. All the staff that we met on reception during our stay were very polite and helpful. We hope to return in the not to distant future. Well done the Blue Haven !!

  • Disliked — the main bar was being renovated, but no big deal as the restaurant bar was open

My husband and I just stayed at the Blue Haven over Christmas week for one night and it was great. Since it was off season, we had no problem finding street parking right outside the hotel although I would imagine parking could be a problem in the summer.

The room was lovely with a very comfy bed and although small we had been forewarned about this when I made the booking and given the opportunity to book a superior room.

The lady at the front desk could not have been more helpful with information on parking to local walks and also offered use of their front desk computer to surf the web when we found the internet cafe across the street was closed.

The pub is nice for a quiet drink and the breakfast was excellenct with a good variety and good quality food.

I would stay at the Blue Haven again, the location couldn't be better, walking distance to all pubs and restaurants and shops.

However if you are the kind of person where lots of additional amenities are a necessity then this is probably not the place for you. I know my sister would never consider it becuase it doesn't have a pool or a spa so if you're looking for a hotel where you like to hang out for lengthy periods then this would probably not be the best option. However if you just want a nice centrally located hotel to base yourself in so you can explore the locality then this is a great option.

This was my second time in Kinsale and brought some friends with me this time....the hotel was clean and more than adequate...especially for fussy, creature comfort loving American women. Kate at the front desk was more than helpful and pleasant...as well as the rest of the staff...The pub & restaurant was above average!

Kinsale is beautiful place and the sister city to Newport, R.I....the shopping and restaurants are great....we will go back!

  • Liked — Location, cleanliness
  • Disliked — The rooms were very tiny...but that's Europe!
  • Tips/Secrets — Get the best directions you can..the Kinsale roundabout in Cork was difficult to find
