I'll start with the location. Regardless of what you have read in some other reviews the hotel is definitely walking distance from the town. I'd say about 10 minutes max. Clon by the way is a great town.
As for the hotel.. I would rate this Quality as being no better than mediocre at best. I stayed in a "Executive Suite" which was basically just a slightly bigger standard room, This was in a non-smoking section of the hotel and absolutely reeked of cigarettes. For the most part the room was clean although the chairs were covered in stains. Also it was "nice" of the hotel to put us into a room where there was a mini digger doing work each of the mornings. I would expect ANY hotel to inform you if there is going to be early morning disruption.
I had breakfast in my room twice and each time there was a problem. On the first day the order card wasn;t collected from the door handle, reception were quick to blame the night porter and on the second night I had to bring the order to the reception as this was advised as the only way to guarantee that you'll get your breakfast. By the way this time it arrived late. So if you have a flight/train to catch don't depend on being fed unless you go to the Restaurant. I had dinner once in the hotel. The dinner was quite nice however the resturaunt is more like a very casual canteen. Not the sort of place you would want to dress up for. My advice is to not have diner in the hotel, this was my biggest regret. There are so many places in Clon and surrounding areas to eat in.
I drank in the bar one night and have to mention this, I was 3rd in line to be served. While the first person was giving in his order the bar man, get this said "I have to answer this" and answered his mobile/cordless phone and left the bar area. He was gone for ages, I couldn't believe it and neither could anyone else. When he got back he was the bar man from hell. No-one got what they wanted as he couldn't seem to find anything and most people just told him to forget it. A barman this bad is one of the worst crimes in a Irish bar.
A problem I encountered was the fire alarm kept going off. I was there 2 nights and the fire alarm went off multiple times mainly in the middle of the night. There was no attempt to stop people evacuating the hotel and no apologies for for the rude awakenings. I felt sorry for some of the other guests who I overheard had very early flights so needed their sleep. I asked 3 different staff members what was happening with the alarms and got 3 totally different answers, sound like a brush off?
The final moan I'll mention is, while sitting in the lobby a lady walked in asking for a room. The night person on wasnt able to tell here how much it would cost her to stay, he actually told her to go to her room and deal with the cost at the reception in the morning. This was the most basic duty this guy had and I was disgusted by it.
It wasn't all bad though. The day shift reception staff were very helpful, great for direction and friendly. When our room wasn;t ready the sat us in the lobby with complementary tea/coffee. Also there if free WiFi in th lobby area, it is restricted to that area only but it's free.
I have stayed in a few other Quality's and have to say this was possibly the worst. This hotel is overdue a makeover.

To finish, Clonakilty is a MUST visit for travellers, the Quality however is not a MUST visit. The only thing it has going for itself is the fact that's it's walking distance to town.

“Do not stay here!”

Quality Hotel And Leisure Centre

Sorry but I have never stayed in a darker, more depressing hotel in my life. I have to warn others not to make the same mistake as we did and stay here.

The staff are extremely rude and complete rip-off merchants.

I would definitely not advise anyone to stay here for stags/hens or with a group. We did and ended up paying half the bill for the people in rooms next to us. (I don't even know if this is legal?)

It was a complete joke and I have never been treated so badly anywhere I have stayed in my life. I wouldn't even give this hotel 1/10, I just wouldn't rate it.

Take my advise and steer clear! There are plenty of other places to stay in Clon that are far nicer.

I adore this Hotel, and have become a regular here allong with my Fiance, we come down here to get away from it all, and if thats what you want, this is the place for you. we have come down here during nearly every season and have never found it too busy, always just comfortable. The staff are friendly and accomodating, the rooms, are large and warm, the food is good, tho they do tend to overfeed you! and with a leisure centre, large pool and certain massage and beauty treatments as well as a cinema and free broadband, where would you go wrong?
There is also underfloor heating in the bathrooms, *random I know but I just love that! nothing worse than walking on cold tiles!
It is situated just outside the town so its convenient to walk if needs be to the locals, of which 'De Barras' is the place to go, a real old fasioned and friendly pub, full of character.
Inchadonny beach is about a 5 to 10 min drive away and even in the worst weather remains to be just breathtaking!.
Definatly ideal for all ages, wether a quiet time away for a break with your better half, or to get the family out of the house for a few days, this has it all :)

“Great value, but better for families”

My partner and I stayed at the Quality Hotel Clonakilty this past weekend, on a great deal of €99 for 2 B&B and 1 Dinner (well, it is january I suppose).

The hotel is located on the outskirts of the town, would be about a 10-min walk in (though we took the car, considering the weather!) The room was clean and nice, with lovely high ceilings, and noise in the hallway was never an issue. The bar was grand with friendly bar staff and a few TVs for watching matches, and was usually fairly busy. The restaurant was straight average - no worse, no better. A 3 course set menu or €26 equivalent from the a la carte was included in our deal. I wasn't blown away by the food, but I have to say that for a person who loves good food I wasn't let down particularly considering what I paid for it. Breakfast was also fine - nothing exciting, but wasn't let down. Overall the theme of this is: Good value for money!! Nice place, good location, and great price.

The leisure centre was quite good - a very large pool, great sauna & jacuzzi. A LOT of kids, this place must be a mecca for families as there is also a kid's play centre, a creche, and a cinema at the hotel! Saying that, at breakfast and dinner I noted a number of adult groups so it's geared at all age ranges really.

Only downside for me was that I booked in for a massage on Friday evening, and the therapist brought me into a small massage room just off the main fitness room! It was clean and well decorated, with relaxing music, but the relaxing music was totally overpowered by the pounding dance music from the fitness room and the sound of people flailing away on treadmills. Another point - I got undressed for the massage and had only a towel on me, and when the therapist cme into the room all and sundry in the fitness centre could have looked in if they wanted to. Was a bit off-putting to say the least! I had been wondering why a hour-long full body massage was only €45....

Would go there again, especially at that rate.

“Great for families”

Quality Hotel And Leisure Centre

A really great hotel for families, with its well run pool and leisure centre. Of course it can be quite crowded and noisy, but the service is excellent throughout. Lannigans tend to seriusly overfeed you, so maybe you might like two starters instead of main course which overruns the large plate! Great breakfast. Value for money.
