My husband and I stayed at The Grand from the 27th of December through the 2nd of January. We have stayed here many times before but this was our first experience with the hotel during the Christmas holiday season and we weren’t quite sure what to expect. I can happily say, based on previous pleasant stays, that The Grand have outdone themselves. From the time we checked in, to the time we checked out we were treated as though we were their only customers. There was no request too small or too large. The attention to detail from both the management and staff was seamless and exceptional. Staff and Management that we would like to recognize for their hard work and care are: Sean, Thomas, Tony, Sinead and Saleh. They all in their own way made this trip (and some have made previous trips), very special and memorable. As busy as the hotel was; with Christmas parties, weddings, New Year’s Eve and New Years day festivities going on; they and the rest of the staff did not skip a beat. And the atmosphere of the hotel was exactly what we were looking for, relaxed, but lively.
Our booking included a special, 3 course, New Year’s Eve dinner at The Coast Restaurant and I’m so happy we decided to have our meal there. The exceptional service I mentioned above carried on through the restaurant with precision. Sinead, our server was fantastic and made sure there was nothing wanting during our meal. The food was excellent, high quality and perfectly portioned out and timed. There was a very nice selection of wine and we had no trouble picking out a lovely bottle to accompany our dinner. After dinner we spent a bit of time in The Matt Ryan Bar to watch the live entertainment provided to ring in the new year (3 talented musicians playing traditional tunes). The place was packed with everyone clearly enjoying themselves. The breakfast the next morning, again, was exceptionally well organized to accommodate all of the guests. The hours were extended to 11:00 that morning and they used both The Coast and Palm Restaurants. Because we arrived downstairs a bit “late” we were seated in the Palm Restaurant and found the service, selection and quality of food every bit as pleasing as in The Coast Restaurant, which is normally where breakfast is served. After breakfast we found a cozy spot by one of their fireplaces and enjoyed a pot of coffee and simply relaxed and enjoyed our first day of 2013.
If there is any slight, insignificant, downside to this review it would be the lack of internet in the rooms (there was free WiFi in the hotel lobbies). We were informed though, that The Grand is in the process of upgrading the hotel and setting each room up with WiFi, which we were very excited to hear.
All in all, I can’t think of a better way to spend our New Year’s holiday and I know we will definitely be back. Sooner rather than later.
Ask for a sea view whenever possible. You won't be disappointed.
