“Will not return, too expensive. Not 4 star quality.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2012

This hotel was a complete let down. The rooms are very small and exceptionally warm, leaving it very difficult to sleep. I have seen better bathroom facilities in a 3 star property. The rusty screws held the bath panel in place. The shower was pathetic, only a dribble of water came from it. The rooms and bathroom is very clean though.

The walls are paper thin and you can hear everything next door and in the room overhead. The door to the room next to me didn't even meet the ground and you could see right into this room. The guests in this room later must have thrown a blanket and cushions down to try hide out noise in the corridor and to try preserve their privacy.

I arrived late into the hotel and was told that last order for dinner was 21:15. We walked into the restaurant at 21:00 and asked for a table. The first thing the lady did was very clearly stare at her watch. This did not make me feel welcome at all. I felt under pressure to eat my dinner as quickly as possible and get out of the staffs way. Why give a last order time and then make your guests feel unwelcome. The dinner was lovely though. €35 for a 3 course meal.

The location of the property is lovely. There is a lovely view over the bay as you dine in the restaurant. The same cannot be said for the view from the room. I was looking at a wall out my window. It was about 2 meters away from the window, so no view at all. This left the room very dark as well. You have to pay for internet in your room. I think in a 4 star location this is not acceptable. No wi-fi in the room. There was no iron in the room and I needed one as there was a conference in the hotel that day.

Breakfast the next morning was very good no complaints here. This hotel somehow has a 4 star rating, but I cannot understand how this was awarded. I have stayed in other 4 star properties and they are far more advanced than this property. I would not return to this hotel and would not recommend it. Its not 4 star and the rooms are very expensive for what is on offer.

I have stayed here 3 times now and my previous visits were great, however, this visit was an unmitigated disaster. 40 mins to check in after it's alleged I have no reservation, only a single bed or a double in a smokers room. Uncomfortable bed that Kept me awake from 3am. Offered tea at breakfast arrived 15 mins later. Asked for a boiled egg but no egg cups. Sat in an ante room in sub zero conditions caused by the air conditioning blasting our arctic air. So what did the staff do well not much actually that's not fair one apologised but apart from that did nothing. What's gone wrong here because something is amiss. They need to get it sorted or I will stay elsewhere and I hazard a guess so will many others. On the up side the Jaipur curry house was great - but it's nothing to do with the hotel.......think twice here....

We arrived in Malahide on a very rainy day! We were welcomed with a cup of tea and goodies. It is located right on the sea and in a quaint beautiful little town. The hotel is older but has a great ambiance! We would definitely go back!

Room Tip: Rooms located at the front of the hotel are the best!

Had an enjoyable couple of days at the Grand. Hotel is very central...within walking distance to the town centre. However hotel is a little dated and could do with a facelift. Enjoyed using the pool and sauna facilities which was a nice way to end a busy afternoon having walked along the beautiful sea front. Breakfast was very good, great variety and choice and staff was attentive (Joey especially). Good value for money....just needs some TLC....

I spent a week in this hotel a little north of Dublin while working in nearby Swords. The hotel was very classy in an older style. I could not help but feeling it was the type of place where older people might go for a relaxing vacation by the sea. Be that as it may, I liked the hotel and if I am in area again I will surely stay there.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2012

Just come back from staying at The Grand Hotel for 5 nights. We have been going there for a meal or a drink for over thirty years and it was not till February this year that we actually stayed there.

The Grand has grown from quite a small hotel to a modern hotel with plenty of function and conference areas. Although it has got much bigger the staff are very well trained and friendly and one of them even remembered me from my visit in February this year.

The rooms are well furnished and no doubt in due course will get flat screen TVs. They could do with a radio, but they are well equipped with ironing equipment, tea/coffee making facilities and hairdryer. There is also broadband connections in the room, unfortunately it was playing up on the last couple of days, but there is wifi in the ground fllor area, although the signal could be improved.

A full Irish breakfast (or lighter buffet breakfast) was included in the room price in the Coast Restaurant overlooking the estuary.

I used the swimming pool a couple of times and there is no extra cost to residents of the hotel.

The small Griffin Lounge bar unfortunately is only open on a Friday and Saturday night. I remember that from visits many years back and is very cosy, not like the main Matt Ryan bar.

I only ate there one night and although we were charged at the "early bird" rate and stayed to well into the time they were setting breakfast the "chef's special" was not to exciting, but service was OK. After eating there many times during the day I am putting it down to a possible bad choice and would certainly try the restaurant again on another visit.

Hope to return for another stay in 2013

Room Tip: If you want a sea view, I believe you will have to have an excecutive room. The other rooms are all...

Stayed at this hotel last weekend for one night and I just wish that it could have been longer. The room was lovely, the bed was comfortable and the pillows were great. The TV was dated but who wants to watch TV when the view is so good. The only disappointment was the cooked breakfast which must have been sitting under a heat lamp for a long time and the bacon inedible, but this was only a minor detail and it did not spoil our stay,
