“Avoid at all costs!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2010

Avoid at all costs!! Very arrogant landlady! I planned a fun and relaxing weekend surfing with my girlfriend. So after booking a double room knowing that accommodation would be difficult to find at the weekend. I stated that we would arrive in the afternoon after our surf lessons. On arrival well before 6pm, looking forward to a warm shower and lay down, we where shocked to be told we where late! and that our rooms have been given away. No apology, just blatantly turned away at the door. I totally shocked at her arrogance.
As the town was very busy, it was obvious that she wanted the house filled quick and didn’t care how. Left to find alternative accommodation when the everywhere else was fully booked, we eventually got a very pleasant B+B a couple hours later outside Bundoran.

We have been visiting Donegal for "The West Coast Challenge" golf tournament for the last 17 years and would not consider staying anywhere other than Killavil House. The Davey's are excellent hosts, always extending a warm welcome and willing to advise on restaurants, golf or assist with any other queries their guests may have. The rooms are good and Ann's breakfast sets you up for the rest of the day. It's ideally situated within easy walking distance of Bundoran centre where there is plenty of nightlife.
An ideal base from which to explore all Donegal has to offer.

We stayed for 2 nights in Killavil House early in July....we really had a lovely room and the hosts were really friendly and nothing was a trouble to them. We were in Bundoran for a wedding in a nearby hotel, and the landlord even dropped us up to the hotel - you wouldn't get this in many other places! Breakfast the next morning was really tasty also with loads of everything, and more toast & tea offered also, which sometimes is also rare in guesthouses in Ireland - overall if all guesthouses in Ireland were as nice as Killavil House, well then we would be staying in more guesthouses!
We totally enjoyed our stay and would certainly think of going back....

Myself, my husband and 2 small children decided to travel to bundoran for a long weekend.
We booked Killavil House via the internet and was impressed with the location first, and then the large family room. The room was large, clean and the the lady of the house was very friendly even offering milk and snacks for the children.
We stayed in Bundoran for 3 nights and the difference was brilliant, the children had a great time and the owners of the guest house couldn't have been more helpful. It made a weekend away with children a pleasure.
We would definitely recommend Killavil House and Bundoran for the children. We have already rebooked for September!

On first viewing this seemed like a really nice b&b. Overall it was fine, but if we'd been staying any longer than one night I would have been trying to check out early.
The place itself was in walking distance from everything, just as you drive into town (before the KFC). It was warm and it was clean.
The bed was really small and uncomfortable and the bathroom was a squeeze to even get into! The breakfast was average but okay, not the usual food mountain you usually get in such establishments! Given it's a B&B and we didnt get a great nights sleep nor a fabulous breakfast, I wouldnt be in a rush to return.

We booked this guest house online; it was to be a weekend to celebrate my wife’s birthday. Neither of us had ever visited Bundoran in the past, although we had driven through it once on an August Saturday afternoon and were impressed (at a distance) by the family oriented activities evident.
At first glance our room appeared fine. Doubts first arose when the landlady asked us if we would like tea or coffee and she reappeared with a little grubby kettle, tea/coffee and one biscuit each. Upon further inspection we noted the bathroom to be not much larger than that found in a caravan. A rather unpleasant smell required the opening of windows. The bathroom door knocked against the side of the bed and entry/exit required a bit of delicate manoeuvring
The bedroom, which we quickly renamed the ‘cell’, was very basic with one upright chair, a small dresser, a wardrobe and two bedside tables. The room was bitterly cold matching the weather outside and we had to don extra pullovers to keep warm.
Bundoran, even in mid-June, was dead. That evening we went into a pizzeria/bistro at eight o’clock, to be told they had stopped serving. Entertainment in the town appeared to consist of ‘music pubs’ with the usual array of ‘traditional/rebel songs’. We found the best to be the Oyster House.
Next morning at breakfast we were dismayed to find a rather limited choice of fare. We were offered one jug a watery orange drink with no other choice. No yoghurts, fruit or cheese were in evidence. We had a choice of three cereals followed by a fry for my wife and scrambled eggs for myself, each garnished with two quarters of a tomato.
We spent Saturday touring around the general Sligo area, lots to see and do, very highly recommended. However, when we returned late afternoon we could not bear the thought of another night in the room and consequently we checked out. Surprisingly, they didn’t accept credit cards and we compromised on a cash deal for the one night’s B&B. I’m afraid after this experience I couldn’t recommend Killavil House, or indeed Bundoran for any kind of stopover.
