“One of the best!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2009

Have just returned from a fantastic weekend at the Allingham. Our package was for 2 nights and we also upgraded our room to a Superior Seaview room. The room was just beatuiful with a flat screen tv, safe, and much more. The floor to ceiling windows allowed us to see the beatuiful views of Donegal Bay. The evening meals and breakfast were lovely with a great choice of menu including an early bird from 5-7. There was entertainment nightly which we very much enjoyed. Overall a great hotel where the staff could not do enough for us, we will certainly be back and will reccommend this hotel to our friends and family.

How dissappointing my stay turned out at your so called hotel,it was dark, dated, dirty and your waiting staff didnt know if they were coming or going. Breakfast time was nothing more than a discrace, your dining room was overloaded with guests not only this you's where short in seating and the staff didnt know how to cope with this. Your Deluxe rooms where quite grubby and old fashioned for which i paid 130 Euro for 1 nights stay. Needless to say i will not be staying at your hotel again nor reccomending it to family or friends.

Booked into stay in the allingham arms with my other half recently and cant express my disappointment enough. Upon arrival at the hotel, we entered a somewhat dank and dreary foyer area, we went straight to the reception where we were greeted by a very pleasent receptionist who looked after us straight away. However, we were somewhat perplexed that she instructed us to pay our bill in full on arrival (and not on departure as is the norm.....) we soon cottoned on quickly why this was the case as soon as we entered our room, as we can imagine a lot of hotel guests complaining about having to pay at all to stay in the dire hotel rooms that the allingham offers......the room smelt like an ash-tray and the bed spreads were covered in cigarette burns, and were thread bear......the general appearence of the room was shabby, dirty and in need of a dire re-vamp.....the piece de resistance was the suspended ceiling that you see in an office - not what you would expect to see in a hotel!!! The bathroom was like something from the 1960's and the toilet was leaking......we decided there and then to complain and request a room change which thankfully they were able to facilitate - but only after my husband explained that there was no way we could sleep in a room that smelt as if "chain smokers Ireland" had held their convention there! The second room was practically the exact same as the first, albeit minus the smell. Decor still shabby and dated and the rooms were really really dark and the beds most uncomfortable (pillows were as flat as a pancake). Granted, it is not the most expensive hotel to stay in, however, I would expect any hotel to maintain a certain level of standard with regard to hygiene and general hotel maintenance - this is not the case with this hotel and it most certainly is not worth the money to stay here. I have stayed in many different types of varity of hotels in both in Ireland and abroad, some of which were cheaper than the Alingham arms and yet were spotlessly clean and bright and airy in the rooms. It was just unfortunate that this was not the case with the Alingham arms...the whole place has to be nooked. The staff were pleasent but its in a time warp......The icing on the cake was when a hotel cleaner knocked at our door at 10:30am to ask for "wet towels"!!!!! hhmmmm...needless to say we will not be returning!

We have been here 4 times and now going back this year. The food is the best we have had in any hotel in the world and far too much. Reception and bar staff are all very welcoming. We are country and western music lovers and cannot find a better place for this all under one roof- superb. We under stand the rooms are being refurbished in the older part of the building and we feel on completion it would then be a 4*.

Stayed in the Allingham Arms Hotel on Valentines weekend, went for a romantic weekend a way. I seen that they hade a special rate on for that weekend 2B&B, 1 Dinner and the free into the dances, when I rang to make the reservation, it was so easy, I wanted a bottle of wine and chocolates in the room for when we got there, this was no problem and they were glad to help. I book one of the rooms at the front of the hotel over looking the bay; these rooms are so nice, well worth the extra €30.00 per night. I had booked dinner for that Saturday night, the menu was lovely and the service was very good. Went to the dance no Saturday night, it was a brilliant night we were up dancing till 2am in the morning. I can not find any fault with my stay and will be back.
