I have hosted several tours of Ireland with friends and family. On this ocassion there were 13 persons in our group. We were most pleased with the Hotel Ballina. The staff was very helpful, keeping the kitchen open a bit longer on our late arrival. The rooms were wonderful, the food was very good and the swimming pool is unrivaled in that part of Ireland. Very pleasantly surprised to find this level of accomodation in Mayo. One of the nicest hotels I have stayed at in Ireland. We look forward to our next visit.

Stayed midweek 3 nights tues-friday with complementary evening meal. Arrived at the hotel late afternoon. Got a room on 2nd floor and went up to discover that it had not been serviced and was how the previous guests had left it. OK not a good start but 1 mistake can be forgiven. After being given free tea/coffee in bar while they sorted this out, we got another room on 3rd floor and this one was great. Very clean, massive bed with LCD TV etc. No mini bar/fridge but otherwise fine. The hotel seemed to be quite empty as we saw no-one else on our floor. Location of hotel is just outside town (approx 1.5 miles) on Dublin/Foxford road. We ate in the restaurant that night and the food was quite good but quite expensive. We did notice that there was only one waitress and the barman was doing waiter also. Both were busy beyond belief and we felt sorry for them as they struggled to cope. The next morning at breakfast, again only one waitress and the barman was there again having to do all duties. We were down around 10AM and it was not overly busy but still we had to wait until they cleared a table for us, as they were so busy, they did not clear any of the used tables until someone was there and actually needed it right then. Obviously understaffed. It was the same story the rest of the week. Not the staffs fault. Management did not have enough staff on duty. Whether this was trying to save costs becuase the hotel was not overly busy, I do not know, but either way, we will probably look elsewhere next time, which is a pity because it is otherwise a fine hotel.

This is my third stay at the Ballina Hotel and I really enjoy it. I love the Ballina hotel as my base. I like to travel throughout the West and find their location is the best. The staff are very professional and know how to treat people. The rooms are very clean and spacious. They allow a generous amount of time for breakfast. I enjoy using the spa facilities early in the day and still having time for a great Irish breakfast. If you do not bring a laptop, you can use the laptop in the reception area. I was able to keep up with my email and check the Internet without bring a computer with me. The town center is about a 1.6 miles. I took leisure walks to the city center for shopping. They have a very generous parking area and last but not least, the price is TRAFFICE.

Room Tip: Trust the staff to help you with that choice.

Hotel Ballina is a very good hotel, with large, comfortable rooms and plenty of in-hotel facilities.

The only downside: it's a little bit outside the town, so you'll need a car if you're to move around.
