“Best restaurant in Ballina”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2014

I am so surprised that the Ice House is rated only 17th of 35 restaurants on Tripadvisor. Having run - at speed- away from the food in our hotel, this was the star of our eating out in Ballina. The staff were all professional and courteous. The children's menus were excellent and not all of the sausage/burger/nuggets chips chips chips variety that most restaurants seem to think is acceptable. In fact, when our daughters meals arrived, we genuinely thought that there had been a mistake and that they'd been given adult meals. Portion size and presentation was A1.
Adults meals were absolutely delicious. I had a prawn skewer with caramelised pineapple and goats cheese to start, followed by tuna for mains and a delicious lime cheesecake for dessert. Yum yum YUM. Fresh, again well presented and beautiful garnishes on everything. The Teenage Garbage Bin had the chowder and pronounced it delicious. Number 2 son had the homemade goujons which were moist, tender and flavoursome. Again it was a meal which was not thankfully typical of a children's menu. €160 for a full meal for 6 to include wine and a cocktail for Daddy was not, on the face of it, cheap but to our minds represented excellent value given the work that went into each meal.
The hotel looks for feedback from the diners and we did point out our only gripe which was that the service was slow - and perhaps even worse, that not all people at our table were served contemporaneously. Hopefully this can be addressed. We look forward to returning
(By the way, there is a spa attached to the restaurant which we took a peek into. Looks fab, bab, fab)

“Fabulous food stunning location”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2014

The food here is top notch and the view from the restaurant over the river Moy is impressive. The waiting staff are very friendly and helpful, however the hotel owners need to realise that a successful restaurant needs staff to actually serve customers. Our initial drinks order was quick but the wait for food between each course was appallingly slow . We had to wait 25 minutes between first and second course a further 15 minutes waiting on the bill only to discover it was wrong as staff had doubled our drinks order this took a further 20 minutes despite asking staff to get it sorted out. Will not be in any hurry back

“Great spot..”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2014

Lovely place to eat. We had dinner and it was top class. Restaurant was busy even though it was a Tuesday night, and some of those were locals. Always a good sign. Well done to staff , they were very attentive and professional.

“What a disappointment!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2014

Recently went to the Ice House Hotel to celebrate an anniversary and we came away very disappointed. What should be their biggest asset, their restaurant overlooking the river Moy was a total let down. Firstly the walled glass windows were filthy, secondly the service was very slow and thirdly the food was not up to scratch. When the main course arrived, the food was cold and on sending it back the same plate of food arrived back scalding hot and the food shrivelled up and certain elements of the dish missing. This is definately not what you expect form a highly recommended 4star hotel. The hotel lacked atmosphere and the hot tub was filthy also. This hotel was not cheap and certainly not worth the money. We will never be back and would certainly not recommend it.
