Once you are inside the Broadhaven Bay you could be in any 3-Star Hotel anywhere in Ireland. The decor, design, obligatory leisure centre and swiming pool are efficient, clean and well-deisgned but utterly lacking in character, especially the aircraft hangar like hotel bar.
If it wasn't for the friendly and helpful staff and the lovely surroundings the premises would be a lacklustre place to stay. The receptionist was fantastic and so cheery, so were the staff in the leisure centre and the lady who took our breakfast order. I saw one family who checked in after the kitchens shut get first class treatment from the duty manager to get them food suitable for a child who was a fussy eater.
Having been to Belmullet on many occasions over ten years the hotel is, however, by far the best place to stay in the town, but the food is basic. There's better available in the town (about a ten minute walk away), especially An Chéibh, a pub which serves great seafood and the Bay Bistro, which serves a massive full Irish breakfast..
The gym was modern and seemed to get little use, the swimming pool got a lot of use by locals, esp children, but was well managed.
Can't really comment on the rooms except to say that I booked an executive room as I needed space to work in and we ended up with the bridal suite. On going to the reception to query the palatial accommodation - Me: 'I think you have put us in the wrong room?!'; Receptionist: look of horror turns to broad smile as she explains - the Executive Rooms and the Bridal Suites are one and the same! The room was huge, bigger than a small apartment and had a very nice jacuzzi bath, but with a mini-bar that contained little more than a one-third full decanter of whiskey it conjured up nightmarish thoughts of the wedding parties who had gone before us.
Would definitely stay at this hotel again, though in a normal room! The only really awful part of our stay was the terrible 'band' who were playing in the bar. We were all on for another pint and they drove us away with a murderous rendition of Johnny Cash's 'Ring of Fire'.
