“the very best of Ireland”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2009

our experience at the Castlewood was so delightful that we rearranged our schedule to stay another night. The proprieter, Bryan, is a true Renaissance man and provides exemplary service checking us in, carrying our bags, giving us very spot on suggestions for food and music, arranging tours, cooking, and even got up really really early to get us breakfast and drive us to the busstop--all the while being professional, accessible and down to earth. The rooms are clean, quiet, and with beautiful details such as bottled water on Irish lace doilies, crisp bedding, soft big towels on a towel warmer, jacuzzi tub with plenty of hot water. Breakfast is fresh from fruit, scones, homemade yogurt, to salmon and eggs or full Irish hot breakfast served with flare in a dining room overlooking Dingle Bay. The hotel is in town about 8 minute walk to heart of downtown which was no problem. Room was very reasonably priced too. You need to contact castlewood directly by email or Ireland.com for availability as they are not listed by common US websites like expedia but reply was within 12 hours. Dingle pennisula and its people made the trip to Ireland for us but It was the Castlewood and Bryan that really helped us find and explore all the offerings as first time visitors provding a wonderful "home" base and service. TIP: Took a private tour with Dennis around the Pennisula and it was great--he really knows the history, legends and the people of this area and the stories he shares will stay with you a longtime after your trip!

If you are looking for a gorgeous yet comfortable place to stay, Castlewood is perfect for you. The inn is beautiful inside and out, with IMMACULATE, modern rooms that were well-decorated, spacious, and comfortable. The inn is bright and cheerful, with beautiful views of the harbor and a lovely sitting room. Breakfast was also huge and delicious. The inn is about a 5-10 minute walk along the water to the downtown center...would stay here again in a heartbeat...couldn't have asked for anything better and wish that all inns were like this one.

Carlsberg don't do B&B's .. But if they did ....

As below too much good things to say about the place
Except
i) The rooms - are very spacious, Clean and quiet
ii) The Breakfast- I didn’t know whether to eat it or take a photo !!!!
iii) Both Helen & Brian are great owners – and know when to help not over bearing exactly right
If I had to describe it – exactly right

We stayed in Castlewood House in February for 2 nights and had an absolutely fantastic time. Dingle itself is a great spot and we were blessed with the weather as Feb in Ireland is normally nasty! The highlight of the stay has to be Castlewood House itself. I’m usually a hotel person but other tripadvisor reviews made me opt for here. An added bonus was that usually some of tripadvisor’s #1 places are priced out of my budget but Castlewood was very keenly priced.

The house is just gorgeous. Brian met us in reception, offered us a seat and, even though we had dragged him away from cleaning the oven, he took the time to show us a map and point out all the local hotspots in terms of food, drink and activities. He then brought us to the nicest room I think I have ever stayed in – 6ft bed, beautiful cherrywood furniture, tea and coffee making facilities and a jug of purified water (forget the name of it – it has healing properties), robes, nice toiletries, fluffy towels. It definitely had all the extra touches – even down to piped sound in the bathroom which was lovely when soaking in the Jacuzzi bath. Also, I love a good power shower and this separate one didn’t disappoint.

The breakfasts are something else altogether. Lovely cereals, breads, fruits, yoghurts, chesses & juices to choose from as you please and a breakfast menu that made it very difficult to choose. I had the full irish one day and the pancakes the next and both were superb. It would be worth going again just to try all the other breakfast options.

I would strongly advise a stay here, if you are into sheer luxury – if not, stay well clear!!!

My husband and I recently stayed at the Castlewood House on the last leg of our tour through Ireland, and we wish we had more time to enjoy this gem of a hotel. The house is beautiful and perfectly decorated, and the hosts, Brian and Helen, could not be more gracious. Castlewood House is one of the loveliest spots in Ireland, and we eagerly anticipate a return trip.

We stayed here with our 5 year-old and it was fantastic. I don't know that we have stayed anywhere (in the world) that we have enjoyed more. Brian and Helen make everyone feel at home and were fantastic to visit with. We REALLY enjoyed the breakfast. It is also a very easy walk into town which made it all the more enjoyable. This is the only place to stay if you are coming to Dingle!

My husband and I absolutely fell in love with everything about Castelwood. We enjoyed our walks to town, our yummy breakfasts, helpful hints from Brian and feeling really well taken care of. This was a celebration of our 25th anniversary and we got upgraded to a junior suite with a view of the water and we could hear the birds and feel the breeze off the water. It was everything I had hoped for and more.
