If you are the type of travelers that would enjoy the chance of stepping in dog feces right outside your bedroom door, then this is the place for you !!! I do not blame the dog, I am a very staunch supporter of dogs, but obviously he was not let outside to relieve himself. I do wonder the obvious, why is a dog allowed to roam around the house, if this is a public accommodation ?
My first instinct that warned me this was not going to be a "good place" to stay was the fact that when we arrived, there were no owners present. If not for the good luck of having some guests exit the house and let us in, we would have been sitting in the parking lot for almost an hour. As per the explicit instructions to CALL PRIOR TO ARRIVING, we did....three times, no answer, so three messages were left.. When inside, we used the mobile number given to us, for which we could hear a phone ringing in an adjacent room. We were told by the other guests leaving, that perhaps the owners were in their apartment and we could try knocking on the door. We did, no luck. We did notice a phone on the desk, and thought it was a pay phone, since it had a descriptive slot to "place the coins" We thought that this local phone might work better, so, coins in hand, we tried to call again. We soon realized that this was an answering machine, because it said, "you have three unread messages". So, obviously, they did not even bother to check messages, even though we were confirmed to arrive on that very afternoon.
Allowing for the fact that emergencies do happen and maybe they were involved in such a circumstance, we focused on our own emergency, the lack of a place to use a "rest room". After traveling for almost three hours, we decided to take turns to walk to town. If we both left, we would have been locked out, and having no idea when the owners would return we did not dare risk it.
Upon my return, I was met by the owner, who said she was sorry. I asked her if she had a cell phone, and she told me she left it at home. I do not understand how anyone who is running a business can be so lax in today's current method of communication. Her explanation was that she had an appointment at her daughter's school and her tone of voice implied that it should be accepted without question,
I would never recommend this place. Yes, it has a beautiful view, but so do several other places. It amazes me that after all we experienced upon arrival, not once did either owner offer us a cup of tea or coffee, a small token, but it would have helped soften the frustration that we had just endured.
Oh and be warned, even though there is a little "ring bell" on the desk, it is totally useless. God forbid any kind of emergency occurs after hours because there is no way to contact the owners, even though they live on the premises. When the dog had his accident, I knocked on their door, several times, and rang that bell constantly. I went outside, walked by their apt, and saw him lying down watching t.v. I came back in and yelled out loud outside their door and kept knocking. Totally frustrating. My cousin came down to help me, looked out back and said, "He's just pulling in, he must have gone out for a few minutes"...To this day, I do not know how he left without me noticing. I ran around towards the back, yelling 'hello, hello, and he was ahead of me, and proceeded to go into the side door, and shut the door in front of me. He would have to be deaf not to have heard me, as I was right behind him. I followed him inside and told him about the dog. He did not apologize at all.
If not for the fact that we were totally exhausted upon arrival and our stay was only for two nights, we decide to hope for the best and see what happened. The owner did make an attempt upon our check-out to apologize by not charging us for the first night. I am still not impressed with that because it is not anything that any other B&B owner would do to maintain good rapport with the public. These owners do not follow the course of many other B & B owners that go the extra mile to make the customers feel welcome, comfortable and secure in their "traveling home away from home".
The only saving grace is the owner's mother, who runs the breakfast room. She is what B& B hospitality is all about.
