We arrived in Dingle in the late afternoon on a sunny day. Turned out there was a boat leaving to look for Fungi in five minutes, so we took it! The whole experience was exceptional. Our full house on the boat was mostly adults, but with the enthusiasm of children. The excitement was palpable, both in the minutes it took looking for Fungi, and heightened in the first "There he is!" when a fin was spotted. Even our captain, who has been looking for Fungi daily for 25 years, had genuine joy in his voice when sighting him for us over and over.
I love Fungi's history, and am so happy to have actually seen him. He was kind enough to play his game with the boat and appear long enough for us to get a couple of good shots. The entire experience was fun, right down to the young woman next to us who would shoot a picture and then say "Fin." then "Another fin." All frustration generally ends with success though.
The tour company stands behind their claim that no one pays unless Fungi is spotted. We weren't even asked to pay for our visit until we were returning to the dock, all happy dolphin spotters.
I have limited mobility, and this presented no problem. The captain helped me on and off the boat without asking, and my walker waited on the dock getting some sun while we were out.on Fungi quest.
The entire experience was "fecken mighty!"
