“Simply Stunning!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2011

On a recent visit to Kerry and Dingle, I had the pleasure of staying at this delightful, exceptionally well staffed and charming hotel right beside the shore. The rooms were ample in size and very well presented, the spa facilities were modern and clean and the outside thermal jaccuzzi with a view of the bay was simply stunning! Facilities and room aside, the breakfast options were endless and the quality of the food in the restaurant was undeniably of Michelin star quality. Great service accompanied by true Irish charm from the staff, in particular the waiting staff whose service was impeccable. The view of the bay on a clear day, accompanied by a roaring fireplace, traditional leather and mahogany seats and a glass of vintage red wine... Need I say more?

A true gem!

The Dingle Skillig's main asset are its helpful, friendly and courteous staff members who, without exception, were always more than eager to help in any way possible. Other aspects of the hotel, however, were not so great. As has been stated by others, the decor is in dire need of upgrading and the facilities, while adequate, are less than one would expect in a four-star hotel. There are no toiletries or robes in the bathroom, for example.

The Peninsula Spa is pleasant but not luxurious. I didn't have any treatments - and thought they seemed a little overpriced - but I did enjoy soaking in the outdoor hot tub with fabulous views of the sea and mountains. The restaurant also has great sea views, but I thought the food was a mixed bag. Breakfasts were fantastic, with a great hot and cold buffet, but the evening meals were dissappointing. My partner sent her meal back - something she hardly ever does - and we suspected that some of the dishes were reheated rather than cooked to order. Our dinners were part of the package we had pre-booked, but if your meals are not included, I strongly suggest you go to one of the many restaurants in town for your meals.

All in all, while the Dingle Skellig is a friendly and well-organised hotel, it does not deserve four stars. It's also not the place for a relaxing holiday, due to the large number of children there, as the hotel advertises itself as a family destination. A stay at the Skellig is also quite expensive for what you get, especially if you do not avail of one of the many deals available, especially in the low season.

I appreciate you taking the time to post your experiences of your recent stay with us here at The Dingle Skellig Hotel. I am delighted to read your compliments about our staff and that you found them helpful and courteous. I was also pleased to note that you enjoyed your Breakfast experience with us, both hot and cold buffets, as we constantly strive to continuously improve our guests dining experiences. I was however, very disappointed to note that your Evening Meal experience was not so successful. I would like to take this opportunity to assure you that all of our food is freshly prepared and cooked to order using the finest produce, especially that of local, that we can find.

Our hotel is assessed by a number of the relevant bodies each year and continues to achieve its four star grading. Also as you mentioned we do indeed advertise the hotel as a Family Friendly Hotel but we have a number of areas within the hotel that are exclusively reserved for adults only and so try to create a balanced experience for all our guests. I hope that this can resolve some of you issues raised and would be delighted to welcome you back again to the hotel on another occasion.

Kind regards

I stayed here in August 2011 with my little boy and found it a great experience. The kids club had loads of great activities which kept a very active 9 year old very happy. This left time for a weary mam to visit the lovely spa and be pampered by excellent staff. All staff in hotel were excellent. Room was lovely. Loads to do in Dingle. Also thought it was very good value.

Stayed at the Skellig for four nights/five days in late August for the second time in three years, and I will be back! The facility is family friendly yet suited to older couples as well. All the nice people who work the front desk are pleasant, knowledgeable and helpful in answering questions about the hotel as well as the area. The food is very good (the breakfast buffet is actually pretty awesome!), the spa is worth a visit, the location ideal for making trips into Dingle town on foot, the rooms are quiet and comfortable...but my favorite thing about this venue is the view from the dining room. This is all good stuff, but I should also mention, that I hope by my next visit, there might be some new carpeting on the stairs as they are beginning to show signs of being well loved by many happy guests.

we stayed here for 2 nights and had a lovely time. our 2 year old loved the creche and the staff there were very friendly. spa was nice and staff were lovely. Breakfast was very good. The hotel is a little dated but the scenery makes up for this.

Room Tip: be careful when walking into the pool its very slippy as my husband slipped and banged his head.

Stayed at the Skellig for three nights ( 11th-14th September). Really enjoyed it.
From the minute we arrived, welcomed by Caren, a friendly receptionist we encountered friendly and helpful staff in all areas of the hotel.

I would have to make a special mention of John, a new waiter who looked after us exceptionally well. He was attentive, friendly and helpful. All of the staff in the dining room couldn't have been more helpful.

We enjoyed wonderful Spa treatments by extremely friendly and hardworking members of staff. The sea view from the Penninsula Spa area was lovely, and the outdoor hot tub was heaven eventhough it was very windy.

The food was outstanding. Breakfast best you would find anywhere, eggs or fish cooked to order. Amazing buffet selection. There was a huge choice on dinner menu and food was delicious.

The room we stayed in had been upgraded since our last visit and was spotlessly clean.
Few children there compared to July or August which suited us.

We had the swimming pool to ourselves at times which was lovely.

We went for a relaxing break and certainly got that. Looking forward to a return visit.

Room Tip: Some rooms have sea views which probably should be requested at time of booking.
