“Very pleasant Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2013 via mobile

Kenmare is a great location to explore the Ring of Kerry, a great little town with a lovely local Bar in Crowley's. Helen is the perfect host at Oldchurch. The room was fine. Very clean and spacious. Helen was very helpful and most welcoming. We greatly enjoyed our time both in Kenmare and at Oldchurch House. I'm sure we will return some point.

This is my home away from home. Helen and Frank welcome you into their house with open arms and a love for what they do.
The Rooms are lovely.!
Comfortable beds to make you dream,
A shower with great pressure to make you warm and clean,
A yummy Breakfast to get you ready to go.
A short walk to town, Kenmare down the road,
Plenty a Shop, action and beer.
once you have had your fill, just blink.
to find your self back at home, at the Oldchurch house, dreaming in sweet sleep.

I regularly work in this part of Ireland and when I do I always make sure to stay here. The location is great, the immediate surroundings are tranquil and it's still only a 5 minute stroll from town! Furthermore, the breakfast room and patio overlook stunning mountains in the background. But the best part of all is the lovely landlady, Helen, who looks after all her guests extremely well and is an absolute pleasure! This B & B is a must stay for anyone coming to Kenmare. Completely recommend and have zero complaints after many stays here!

Room Tip: All rooms are great but ask Helen about the rooms with a mountain view!

The Oldchurch House B&B seriously is a must stay. First of all, location, location, LOCATION! The views from the back of the house are beautiful looking over a cozy patio to rolling mountains and greenery. Directly across the street are the remnants of an old church (hence the name) building and cemetery from about the 16-17th century. It's presence gave a sort of serenity to the place. Oldchurch House is located far enough from Kenmare's center that it is quiet and still somewhat private but definitely close enough to walk! It took us less than 10 minutes to walk to town for dinner; we even walked a bit further to the Kenmare pier and it was a lovely stroll.

Helen and Frank were both extremely personable and kept the house in immaculate condition with plenty of homey touches. They also provided so many good tips for the rest of our time in Kenmare and Ireland in general.

The only complaint I have is that we couldn't stay more than one night!! We would definitely come back and spend more time!

Visited Kenmare recently and stayed at the Oldchurch House B&B. Let me tell you how IMPRESSIVE this B&B is! The house is warm and welcoming, but modern with great heating and plumbing - none of the issues you hear about cold rooms or low water pressure. Even better are the amazing, pastoral views from the upper level! Our 2nd level room looked out over luscious, rolling hills, a world class golf course, and even better - the gorgeous back patio surrounded by trees, flowers and a small pond. We were in heaven! Amazing bird sightings, too! The owners, Helen and Frank, were simply DELIGHTFUL and most helpful - we took their advice on sightseeing in the area and were very pleased with their recommendations - and the breakfasts they served were first class! CHOOSE THIS B&B - YOU WILL BE THRILLED! :D

We stayed at this B&B for two nights on our recent trip to Ireland. We were thrilled with the personal attention we received from Helen during our stay. It's obvious that she loves what she does. We were pampered with great food, caring advice, and every other thing we needed. The rooms were cozy and comfortable and the showers were hot and had good pressure. We loved staying here and would return if ever in the region again. The location is perfect for exploring the Ring of Kerry or the Dingle Peninsula. Skip the bigger city of Killarney with it's tour buses and busyness. Kenmare is quaint and this B&B is wonderful! Helen's recommendation of the Coachman was so good that we returned the next night for a second dinner. Overall a great experience.

We stayed at the Old Church House for three nights on a recent visit to Ireland. Helen was a welcoming host who went out of her way to ensure our stay was an enjoyable one. Our room, on the ground floor at the front of the house was spacious, light and tastefully furnished. Breakfasts included a range of choices from light continental to a full 'Irish cooked breakfast'. Helen ensured my dietary requirements were catered for with two types of gluten free bread and biscuits during our stay. Her suggestions for places to visit were very helpful and enabled us to experience some of the 'real' Ireland as well as the usual tourist attractions in the area. The local eateries in Kenmare are varied, of a good standard and are a brisk walk or only a short drive away.
We would strongly recommend 'The Old Church House' to anyone wanting a comfortable base from which to explore this beautiful part of Ireland and to listen to Helen's advice on possible sightseeing options.
