“Very Lovely B & B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2010

2 couples stayed in 2 rooms & we were all very pleased with the accommodatios. The place was warm, friendly, convenient, clean, quiet & Mary O'Brien the proprietress was cherrful helpful & obviously loved what she was doing. The Irish breakfast was the usual but her brown bread was some of the better we had. Being off season, the rate was only 35 euro/person. Highly recommend it.

There is also a Hawthorn Lodge next door for longer stays.

We were greeted by a lovely lady Mary who showed us to our room which was very clean with wood floors and had beautiful wood furniture in it and lots of natural light. She advised us on good places to eat, listen to music, and the best places to drive to. Breakfast was not to early so if you had been out late you were sure to get a real Irish breakfast, the Irish feed you very well and everything is fresh. The staff are pleasant and kind. The location is close to excellent restaurants, pups with live Irish music, great shops, and is a wonderful area for walking. If you have a car it is close to many beautiful areas to drive to for hiking, enjoying the water, or just touring the country side.

Hawthorne House was the perfect pick. Location is great, the facilities were spotless, food was great. Above all Mary, was so fun and helpful in getting us dinner reservations and giving us tips on what to see and do. I would definately recommend this B and B to other people. I wish I could go back !

My husband and I took our adult sons to Ireland for 2 weeks. We spent a week at the self catering cottage that is part of the Hawthorn House. We all had a wonderful time and found the owner Mary and her family to be just lovely. The cottage was wonderful. We enjoyed many nights by the gas fireplace in the living room. The cottage was spotless, and very roomy. Mary was so helpful in suggestions to get our sons to Cork for the St. Patrick's Day parade. And her suggestions for food and entertainment were wonderful. This was our third trip to Ireland and the most memorable, thanks to Mary O'Brien, the owner. Kenmare is by far our favorite town and we loved every moment of our stay. I highly recommend the Hawthorne House!

For some reason, Kenmare was busy the night we were there. Hawthorn House still had a vacancy sign out front and we got the last room. It was comfortable, clean and very much what I expected. Mary O'Brien was very friendly and the location very convenient to town, but enough off the main street for some quiet. breakfast was great, my wife had the smoked salmon which made me regret my choice of the Irish breakfast! Mine was great, but the salmon was amazing. We had a little problem with water pressure in the morning. Kenmare is a great town. Horseshoe Pub has great food and Michael O'Brien is a great musician. Go see him at the Coachman if he is playing! I would stay there again next visit to Kenmare.

We stayed 1 week in the self catering appartment next to the guest house. The accommodation was excellent - very spacious with everything that was needed. The location is great, right in the centre of Kenmare with parking.

The hosts Mary and Noel O'Brien were very friendly and welcoming as was their dog Murphy.
The accommodation easily and comfortably suits 4 people.

I will return there when next in Kerry and would be very happy to recomend this to anyone.

Great location in the middle on Kenmare with parking which is a great help.

Our room was so dusty I don't think it had seen polish or a duster for months. The double bed was actually two singles pushed together, so not great to sleep in.
The bathroom had mould all round the plugs and the window.
The sitting room/tv room smelt of damp.
we were really dissapointed and wished that stayed elsewhere as we did not enjoy kenmare.
Owner is going through the motions and said the same thing to each guest at breakfast, so we had the same "banter" on both mornings that we had breakfast.
Think that the owner should retire and hand over the reins to someone else.
This is one for the hotel inspector.
would def not go back
