That's how we were greeted by Mary O'Brien from the Hawthorne House. This was a great--but short--stop during our trip around Ireland. Mary was very welcoming. Offered suggestions for restaurants and activities. Obviously loves what she is doing. B&B is centrally located, priced well, very clean, quiet, with great breakfast and very cheerful staff. I HIGHLY recommend the Hawthorne House.

This was our favorite B&B of the 5 we stayed at in Ireland. The hostess is so warm and welcoming, and gave us great advice on our sightseeing itinerary. The B&B is right in town and a quick walk (1 min?) to shops and pubs. The breakfast was excellent, and we loved the sunny breakfast room. Prices were very reasonable, and the bed was super comfy. Appreciated the free wifi, and the bathtub (so many places only have showers!) I loved all the hand built woodwork in the room. Look no further in Kenmare - this is where you should stay!

My wife and I arrived late at night since we overbooked our sightseeing that day. Mary was gracious as we kept in touch with her on the phone throughout the afternoon and evening. We got into Kenmare sometime after 9pm (maybe closer to 10). My wife was able to just get the key from Mary and we were off for dinner at Prego's on main street. We got to our room quite late. Parking was a bit tight, which is to be expected for that hour of the night) but proved to be no problem. After staying in closer quarters in previous B&B's, our room was a revelation. It was roomy, quiet and clean. The wood paneling gave it a cozy feel as well. We slept wonderfully and woke up to happily find plenty of hot water for the shower, even though we were probably the last people up. Breakfast was a real treat. The breakfast room was bustling with travelers sharing conversation and travel tips. The food was delightful and Mary was in good spirits as she took care of her guests. In summary, Mary is not a gatekeeper. She is un-fussy and spread good cheer. We arrived tired and frazzled and we left happy and renewed. What more could you ask for?

This B&B is centrally located in the heart of Kenmare, only a short walk from the Kenmare Stone Circle. The room and bathroom were large and comfortable, the free WiFi was very much appreciated, and the menu breakfast, cooked by Mary, was a delicious way to start the day. Our only thumbs-down for this B&B was the large window in the shower/bathroom which wasn't frosted or curtained. Thanks, Mary, for a great stay in Kenmare and your recommendations on dining.

We found this B&B through Frommer's, which gave it a favorable review. Sure enough, it was everything Frommer's said, and better. Our room was not small; there was ample space, and the bedroom was clean, comfortable, warm, with an updated bathroom. The owner is lovely and has a great sense of humor. The breakfast the next morning was great, and we were back on the road again, having had another great B&B experience in Ireland. The rates were comparable to most places: about $105 for 2 people (with the exchange rate at the time), which included breakfast. Stay here if you find yourself in Kenmare!

My wife and I traveled to Ireland for my 50th birthday. We picked the Hawthorn house out from the reviews in tripadvisor. We had originally planned on staying two nights, but ended up staying three. We loved it! Thanks Mary.
More about the location: Kenmare was just right for us. It is ideally located for touring the scenic Iveragh and Beara peninsulas. The town of Killarney on the other hand, is an overgrown tourist mecca. We did not have enough time to fully explore the Ring of Kerry. We could easily have spent all three days in the Killarney National Park. We only crossed the Beara. Next time we want an entire week at the Hawthorne House!

We chose the Hawthorn House from Frommer's at the end of a long day of touring and couldn't have been happier. Hawthorn House is located very close (very short walking distance) to downtown, is comfy, welcoming and clean. Perfect location for exploring Kenmare's restaurants, pubs and surrounding area. Mary O'Brien couldn't have been more friendly and informative and was so kind in helping my wife and I out of a small jam regarding towels (thank you again Mary :-)). My wife and I have stayed at a number of B&B's all over Ireland and can highly recommend the Hawthorn House for location, cleanliness, a warm welcome and a terrific full breakfast in the morning.
