Description: "Kenmare, in Co Kerry, has its unfair share of places to eat, but you'll miss one of its finest attractions if you confine yourself to the restaurants that feature in guide books. Wharton's Traditional Fish & Chips, in the town centre, is a gem. My cod was encased in the finest, lightest batter, into which crushed black peppercorns had been incorporated. It was so fresh I swear I saw it twitch as it hit the oil. The chips are hand-cut from potatoes that are, amazingly, chosen for their "fryability". And they have cider vinegar if you fancy a change from the stuff you usually get in chippers..." Tom Doorley (Irish Times)

“Good chipper”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2012

"Chipper" is probably slightly pejorative - I've eaten here a few times while travelling back to Killarney and it's always been good. The fish and chips have been cooked to order. There are no frills about the place (no pun intended) but it's clean, and good value (there's nothing here between 'Average' and 'Very Good' - which is slightly restricting as that covers a lot of ground). The upstairs seating is plain and functional - but is clean and tidy.

“Tasty, but expensive”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2012

It is a clean small Restaurant with possibilities to sit upstairs. It was everything clean, but the wooden , where hard and didn't invite to sit a long time.
I was disapointed about the prices? Fish and Chips for 9€ for Rating inside, or 8,50 for to go. Why the different price? And had netter Fish and Chips for ließ Money. Therefor only 3*

“Good old fashioned fish and chips”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2012

Good ol' fish and chips, our favourite. Home made chips and well cooked fish, just like my Mom makes at home (and my dear wife of course).
Only crib is there were expensive for a take away meal.
