140 euro per night, regular king room, 2 adults, breakfast included
Requested and received regular king-bed room on ground floor facing Shelburne St. Discovered Shelburne is a main drag to Killarney, lots of daytime street traffic beginning 730a.m. which we noticed only when we opened the windows. Otherwise building is soundproof. Request a rear room if street noise bothers you. Bath was white marble and spotless. Towels good, great water pressure & shower head. Bed was a thinner mattress than elsewhere so not quite as luxuriously comfortable but acceptable. Beautiful duvet and nice sheets. Room was spotless and freshly renovated. New furniture not exactly modern style, more cabin style, light colored. Nice to have small dining table & 2 chairs in room. Armoire for clothes and a suitcase rack. It was a large room and the very tall ceilings made it feel huge. Courtesy in-room safe. Parking in rear was plentiful.
Full breakfast was extremely fresh and a great selection. Omelets, croissants, salmon and porridge (won an award) were wonderful. Fresh-cut fruit included. Classy cheery dining room with linens and chandeliers again and great wait staff.
The entire hotel is spotless, obviously lovingly cared for, and best maintained of all we stayed at, even down to the little things like having the outside windows washed (and I thought they were clean to begin with) and the piano polished one afternoon!
Pub was good with live music (check schedule) filled with locals and vacationers, old and young. This was only place we saw folks get up and jig to the music, just for the fun of it! We ate lunch there twice, fresh and flavorful. Wait staff very welcoming and made you glad you came in. Public areas are comfortable with guests enjoying tea and newspaper there. There are bistro tables out front to take your drinks to and watch the world go by.
My sister was able to easily arrange for delivery of fresh fruit & cold wine to our room. On checkout though we had an unidentifiable €10 charge on our bill (room service for delivery of items??? unknown and we just paid it). Still, the presentation of the fruit & wine was very nice.
Town is at your feet, totally convenient and easy. Grocery store, restaurants & shops all right there. PO around the corner. You can take Ring of Kerry tour from Kenmare, contact Finnegan’s. Laundromat drop off is across the street inside the photo business (no sign) and is next day return delivery; do-it-yourself involves driving to it about 2 miles north of town. Kenmare buzzes with activity and lots of music, a fun place. The quality of food seems elevated in entire town. They have a fabulous Farmers Market on Wednesdays.
Customer service here was terrific and personable, uniformly the best we received anywhere.
We secured a special rate for off season (June), stay 2, get 3rd night free. Best value of our trip especially after the high-priced crummy room we had at the Old Ground in Ennis.
Would definitely stay here again.
