“Absolutely excellent!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2012

We ate at the Sailors' Bar on our first night in Ireland - and what a standard it set for the rest of the trip! The food was delicious, and the menu varied - plenty of seafood, also Irish specialities, and good vegetarian options, as well as excellent desserts. It has a lovely atmosphere too - that of a typical Irish pub/bar. But be warned - it's not easy to find! Although the signs advertise 'Sailors Bar', we drove up and down the road, failing to find it - eventually we decided that the building between the two signs had to be it (and it was!), although the name above the door is O'Sullivan's. From Kenmare, it is a red building on the left, facing the bay. We're certainly very glad we persevered and managed to find it though! A must if staying in/near Kenmare.

“true gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2012

by far the best food in kenmare area. unlike other restaurants which can be stuffy, batty batts has a lovely kerry local feel to the place. Seafood is to die for. Great gaelic games house with fantastic pictures of former kerry greats on the walls. very interesting and a nice mix of locals and tourists

On our first visit to Kenmare in 30 years, and following the review on Tripadvisor by a Dr.Noe of Chicago, we went 5 km outside Kenmare on Castletownbere Road to the Sailor's Bar. -Red building on left hand side of road.

Had the finest chowdeer and seafood platter I have experienced anywher in the world , in my 70 + years.Do not miss this marvellous food and lovely people.

“Tucked away 5km outside Kenmare--but worth the trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2011

Sought this place out after a long night in a Kenmare pub doing the "trad music" thing (read: singing, crying, public displays of drunkenness, mostly on our part). Desperately needed something restorative, and this was certainly the place. Everyone raves about the seafood, which I imagine is very good, but don't bypass the burgers or the delicious BLT, or anything else on what is essentially a very long pub menu. Everything seems to taste fantastic, and the atmosphere is very cozy and welcoming. Oh, and don't be confused by the signs--just look for the old red building opposite the water about 5km down the road to Casteltownebeare. It says "BB O'Sullivan" over the door.
