“Beautiful setting on Caragh Lake”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2006

The Carrig House is as beautiful as the website shows. However, I agree with a previous reviewer that the location is not as great as I would have liked for touring the Ring of Kerry. It is located about 10 minutes from Killorglin. Frank and Mary were very courteous and helpful, but it was hard lugging 3 suitcases up to our room on the 2nd floor without an elevator. We dined at the Carrig House our first evening there and I was unimpressed with the food. Breakfast was nothing special--just your typical Irish breakfast. It was a lovely place but not suited for what we were looking for in a place to stay in Ireland especially given the 220 Euros a night!

The house is a charming little place, oversold by the website, but still nice. Your typical old inn-style furnishings and older bathrooms. The views from the backyard are stunningly gorgeous and the garden clearly reflects a lot of love. However, the location is less than ideal. It is about 10 minute drive to the town (which isn't all that nice anyway, compared to the very charming other options in Kerry), so you cant walk to dinner or go to a pub, which is one of the best parts of being in Ireland. Plus you have to drive fairly far to go to any of the places of interest in the area, whether it be the Lakes, Dingle, hikes, etc. During our stay in the area, we did 2 nights here and 1 night in Kenmare and 1 night in Kinsale (tourist trap). If could do over again, I would have used Kenmare as our base the entire time as had best location, most charm, and best food.

My wife & I spent 2 evenings at this marvelous lakeside property recently; what an experience! This venerable home fronts beautiful Caragh Lake that, in turn, fronts a distant range of mountains. Absolutely beautiful! The dining room takes in this sweeping vista, so your evening/morning meals will be memorable indeed. Both Frank and Mary operate this house with quiet effeciency, and the home reflects their hard work. If your plans include the Ring of Kerry, make the effort to spend some unforgettable time at this magnificent home.

I happened to be in Killorglin, County Kerry on a work trip and this place was recommended by a colleague. It is situated by Caragh Lake on the Ring of Kerry. My room was the height of luxury overlooking the lake. Owners Frank and Mary Slattery were very hospitable, and the staff very attentive. Guests can sit in a handsome drawing room, the breakfast was excellent, and in the morning I went for a stroll by the lake. This place is ideally situated for a tour of the Ring of Kerry. It may be expensive by B and B standards, but it is a bargain compared to most Irish hotels.
