“Restaurant was very good and very friendly”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2012

We had lunch in Listowel Arms (downstairs bar/restaurant) while passing through town. Very friendly and helpful service. When we inquired about local things to do, the waitress brought a local over who sat down and talked to us. While we were eating, they were getting ready for a big wedding party - and yet they were very attentive to us. I got to peek at the wedding setup - truely beautiful!!! The town is not a "tourist trap" - it's the real thing. Don't miss Listowel Castle in walking distance. Free tour was wonderful. Also Woulfe's Bookstore for books by local writers and local history books.

Have not stayed at this Hotel but have eaten there many times. The meals in the upstairs restaurant are consistently good and reasonably priced. The staff are most accomodating and friendly.. For a special treat visit this restaurant for Sunday lunch the meal there last Sunday (12h August) was the best I have ever had anywhere.

From the minute we walked in the door we felt welcome. The hotel has a real country house feel to it and lovely elegance. The rooms are really tastefully decorated - all different some having great views over Listowel Racecourse and the river.
The staff were friendly yet efficient and when they smiled at you it felt really genuine.Nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely recommend it.

Room Tip: Some of the rooms hace great views of the racecourse and the river. We stayed in 34 and it was super...

We had our wedding at the Listowel Arms in May 2012. When we were looking for a reception venue a year earlier, we looked at many hotels in the Kerry area and were instantly taken with the look and feel of the Listowel Arms. The hotel has maintained its period features and as has a great ambience. The main room where the reception was held looks out onto the river and race course, all the guests really loved this as most wedding reception rooms do not have great views.

The service we received from Patrice and her staff really was exceptional. Weddings can be quite stressful especially if you do not live where the wedding is taking place, however it did not feel like that as we were so well looked after. Nothing was a problem, you felt you were in safe hands and were given useful tips and suggestions. The decoration of the reception room in terms of flowers and candles was done really well and the food was also of a high standard.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel as a wedding venue to anyone.

We had our wedding there in April 2013. Obviously as we liked The Arms a lot or else we wouldn't have picked it, but we did pick it and we had never stayed, eaten or been to a wedding here!
If like me you are having a big wedding, but you really want it in a nice country house then this is the hotel for you. When I was picking a hotel I had two main criteria, family run and old.....
Listowel Arms delivered on both.
Patrice is excellent, especially in the final days before the wedding. I honestly didnt worry about one thing. The staff are also genuinely excited about the weddings and are so nice.
The area for the drinks reception is fantastic, lovely and bright and it really holds the atmosphere. The room looks out over the river and race course and gets great light. The food was lovely.
I definitely think this venue is one of Kerry's best kept secrets and its definitely worth checking out. It may not be what everyone wants, but for us it was so perfect.
So thanks to all in The Arms, I really do appreciate everything that you did for us.
J

The location is perfect being right on the river and town square. The Listowel Arms has a lot of class for want of a better word, but in a very Irish way. Staff , with rare exceptions, are polite, friendly and helpful. The rooms are lovely (at least the ones I stayed in); spacious, elegant and comfortable with lovely inviting bathroom. Food is great and late breakfast is a bonus as you don;t always want to tear out of bed early. Dinner also good, either from bar or restaurant menu; had a lemon sole om salmon mousse which was beyond delicious - better than the food in many expensive London restaurants. Only a few things that could be improved. Firstly - noise from other guests : unlucky enough to be alongside a gang of early rising Americans who inexplicably slammed their doors repeatedly at 7am every morning. Also the TV in my room was basically knackered and very much in need of replacement. I would suggest to the management that they ask guests to be considerate to other guests with regard to noise, especially early morning. A notice on the back of the door perhaps? Overall - loved it : hope they keep it pretty much as it is!
