“Club Croc not too bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2008

Club Croc Airlie Beach is located about 2.5km from the heart of Airlie, but there is a beautiful walkway/boardwalk all the way into town.it is a very pleasant walk.
The resort is 20 years old, so of course you cannot expect state-of-the-art. I travelled with my husband and our 8 year old son. The room had a queen and a single bed. The bathroom is quite small, and due to the odd shape of the shower, it is impossible to give your feet and lower legs a good wash.
The outdoor area is beautiful, large pools in tropical surrounds, with an open air bar and restaurant. Breakfast was included, and comprised of cereals, fresh fruit and toast. Buffet style, so pleanty to go round.
The small resort store was happy to assist with cruise bookings.
The staff at the resort were courteous and friendly.
We would stay there again.

This place was awful... On arrival we opened our room to be hit with the smell of sewage. After complaining we were moved. The rooms and bedding are old and worn out. The clientelle seemed mainly to consist of families whith parents that would sit and drink rum and coke all day while their kids were left to run wild, and then there were the young guys in town for a few big nights who would wake my family when they would come home at 4am.... All this was taken on the chin (the price we pay for settling on a cheap family room) until we left and I went to see a doctor about what i thought were bites from either sea lice or a stinger. Not so lucky there. Turns out it was from bed bugs at Club Croc! Absolutely disgusting. We called the hotel, they investigated and refunded our money, but that really isn't enough for what i am going through with massive bites all over my arms and spots pretty much everywhere else.

  • Liked — Kids liked the pool
  • Disliked — Noise, clientelle, bed bugs.

Club Croc is not the kind of place you stay for a nice holiday or if you are on a budget. The only saving grace were the clean sheets and the pretty good breakfast which was included in the room price.

We paid $120 a night and were a little dissapointed. The bed which was too singles pushed together was soo old that i was basically climbing up the mattress all night as it was on a lean...
The showers were mouldy and there was a pungent smell of mould in the room. The bottle of champagne on arrival was worse than goone (cask wine) and i have stayed in pleanty of backpakers hostels and they were way better than this place.

There is a nice pool and spa and the bar is pretty good.

Don't expect to be anywhere near Airley Centre as it is around a 45 minute walk from club croc.

Stay in a backpackers in Airley if you are on a budget or stay somewhere in town which is around the same price as you will be dissapointed with this accommodation.

As a travel agent I stay in lots of hotels. This hotel was tired, the bar/restaurant was ordinary. The food was awful, the staff are mostly transiant backpackers who just really dont care.

The only saving grace was the sheets were clean. The room was dusty, the shower mould stained, the furniture worn. I wont be staying there again.

We went to the club 3 friends for three nights. The club atmosphere is very nice and tropical. There is a nice pool, spa and the rooms are nice and clean. Also, the service was very good. So yes, it's a little bit old style, but if you don't want to spend all your money on an expensive hotel, or go to some dirty backpacker - That's the place for you. We enjoyed our stay there a lot and a good value for our money .

  • Liked — The tropical atmosphere
  • Disliked — A bit far away from down town - but we walked everyday 25 minutes

The only reason that we ended up at the "Croc" was a delay in booking accommodation (our fault) and Airlie Beach was packed to bursting the weekend we arrived.

The staff on reception were harrassed and after checking out a room by the pool we booked, but asked for a room on a higher floor which we got.

As per other reviews, the rooms by the poolside are pretty much "in the pool" and when we were walking towards the room door we were met by the sight of a menacing bunch of folk sat in the pool watching our every move. They were literally a few feet away from us, all drinking in the pool and staring at us as if we were trespassing on their land or something!!

Of course, the room we ended up with was not as nice as the "show room " on the ground floor - far from it - the fittings were broken, the shower cublicle was dirty, a huge gap under the door etc etc etc - we only intended having one night because it was only a base to go on a reef cruise but we had to stay 2 because of timings etc.

What makes me laugh though, is that grim places like this, persist in putting those customer comment cards in the rooms, asking guests to let them know of any maintenance issues. Are they kidding?? DO they read them if anyone bothers to write anything down? I suspect not.

Most of the 2nd night we were there, we had to listen to a drunken pool party which went on from about 2 am to 5am and no staff members in sight to care much. We like to have a good time ourselves but that is pushing it. I pity those who book for a week's holiday or more. Don't do it !!!
