“Paradise- The Real Deal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

We arrived in Male from Dubai on the morning flight and from the moment we cleared customs the Huvafen Fushi staff were on hand to look after us. We were greeted and escorted to our waiting private speed boat (literally 2 mins walk from the airport terminal) and then transfered straight to the island which took around 35 mins.

on arrival we were introduced to the resort manager and our personal Butler or Thakaru - Ali who was great and looked after us for our entire stay. Ali was on hand to run us around the island on the courtesy buggy (the island is so small you don’t really need this, we liked walking everywhere.) and to book restaurants, spas or whatever activity we wanted.

We were checked in straight away in our room and given a full guided tour of the resort, the room we stayed in was number 27 and was a very private we weren’t overlooked by anyone and the outside deck and pool area was amazing.

The marine life was incredible! We often saw black tips sharks and stingrays from our pool area and deck (these are completely harmless) and lots of fish. The sea was very warm and there was great snorkeling around the island and even outside our own room.

The food and service was excellent drinks were reasonably priced which was a relief after the prices experienced in Dubai! The Fine dining restaurant was excellent and had a very good menu, the staff were very friendly and clearly really enjoyed working at the resort.

Breakfast was excellent and the range of things to try was great, fresh juices made to order and some good house specials all freshly made to order plus all of the usual buffet items. Room service was fantastic the Tandori Roti was our favorite as were the curries in the Celsius restaurant. I would love to go back just for the sweet corn soup! The cocktails were great and movie night was fun too, wine list was maybe a bit too big but lovers of red wine in particular will be impressed by the underground wine bunker...personally I felt the list needed updating as there was a big influence of Australian wines and maybe not enough reasonably priced European wines.....but that’s my only criticism!

The diving was good and the Dive Team were very friendly and professional, the house reef was great for a shore dive and there are too many other sites for the more experienced divers to mention.

We really enjoyed the Spa and my wife especially enjoyed the massage treatments in an incredible setting either over water or in the underwater spa. In general we found the island to be a very relaxing place and the room was great we spent more time in our room than we usually on holiday as the private pool and deck area was so nice (and it was our honeymoon after all!)

We were very sad to leave and would go back in a heartbeat; the resort really is exactly what you hope the Maldives to be and more…….

Room Tip: The over water lagoon rooms were very private ours was number 27 and it was the most private, Th...

Dear Andy,

What a pleasure to read such great comments on Huvafen Fushi, Ali and the team. Ali of us at Huvafen Fushi have truly enjoyed having the pleasure of you visiting us.

Daniel and his brigade in the kitchen are proud to see their food travel in your review. It is only thanks to you and all other great guests that we can go to "work" with a smile on our face.

Once again many thanks for visiting us on your honeymoon and for sharing that special occasion on our patch of paradise.

When you return, I would be my pleasure to serve you a generous splash of European wines!

Warm regards,

My whole experience at Huvafen was absolutely amazing. The pictures don't do this place justice! The whole width of the island is about 350m making it easy to get to places. It's definitely a boutique and hidden treasure. A lot of the Maldivian islands have been commercialised with hundreds of rooms. This is NOT one of them.

Our thakaru (aka. Ronaldo) was attentive and always helpful booking activities making our stay even more enjoyable. I also got to play soccer with the locals which was a lot of fun. But be warned, they are very good!!

My wife and I took our first dive at Float and the instructor was very patient with me equalizing at depths I've never been before.

Food was brilliant. Every few nights, there is a themed dinner ie. fish night, Maldivian night, etc.. Don't miss out on these nights!

Lunch is delivered very promptly in 30 minutes and super delicious.

The coral and marine life is also amazing so if you are an avid snorkler or diver, it's a must see.

The overwater bungalow has it's own infinity pool looking out the Indian Ocean which is always nice to wake up to :)

I would definitely recommend Huvafen as a luxury honeymoon destination. Sad to be back in reality!

Would I stay again? Yes definitely and recommend others to go!

Dear Dongypro,

Many thanks for your great review of our Premium Luxury Boutique resort. It is rewarding for us to see that you enjoyed the food, rooms, atmosphere and beautiful setting at Huvafen Fushi. We are proud to be surrounded by a great house reef and amazing diving sites. The team loved the fact that you joined our daily football game on the beach and the appreciation you've shown for their efforts across the board!

Warm regards from The Huvafen Fushi team (and Ronaldo in particular),

For fear of repeating a lot of the praise in previous reviews below I will keep this one relatively brief.

In short, for anyone out there who is trying to decide where to stay in the Maldives… look no further. Huvafen Fushi is in a class of its own. If it’s pure, unadulterated (yet discreet) luxury that you are after, you will be nothing but impressed by this resort and the astoundingly high quality of everything there.

First and foremost, the food. Wow. My husband and I decided on Huvafen Fushi after months of researching resorts in the Maldives online for our honeymoon. We wanted to ensure the resort we chose had beautiful rooms, beaches, facilities and friendly staff. In all honesty we didn’t really think about what the food would be like. So when we arrived and discovered that breakfasts, lunches and dinners (in any of the island’s restaurants or in-room dining) was like eating at a Michelin star restaurant we couldn’t believe our luck. Every meal we had out shone the last and by the end of our 12 night stay we were still hankering after items on the menus we hadn’t had the chance to try. The food at Huvafen Fushi is excellent.

Then the staff. Again, wow. They are unbelievably attentive yet discreet at the same time. They are friendly, kind and from the very beginning of our stay as we were welcomed at Male airport to the very last moment they waved us goodbye off the jetty, we felt looked after no end. We were made to feel special throughout our stay despite the resort being nearly full. There were no short comings in this department whatsoever and our Thackaru ‘Nine Two’ was fantastic.

As for the resort itself… if you haven’t already stayed there, try and imagine the most luxurious setting with the highest quality furnishings, finishes and tiny details, all on a glorious piece of sand in the Indian Ocean. Then multiply that by 10 and you’re somewhere there. Huvafen Fushi has literally thought of everything. From the lemongrass infused cold flannels at the start of every meal to the chilled coconut and mint water on the boat journey to and from the airports, to the little surprises in your room, the freshly swept sand on the beach in the mornings, the Bose surround sound in the rooms and the pre-loaded iPod with over 15,000 songs, the pillow menu, the reading glasses and morning papers at breakfast to the delicious R.E.N toiletries generously refilled in the expansive bathrooms; nothing has been overlooked.

We spent 6 nights in a beach bungalow followed by 6 nights in a Lagoon Bungalow. We loved the first bungalow so much we were afraid we wouldn’t like our upgrade on the second week! However they are so cleverly designed, we enjoyed aspects of both rooms and would recommend splitting your stay in the same way as we did so to get the best of both. Our favourite elements of the rooms were the private secluded walled garden at the rear of the beach bungalow (great for champagne in a shared bath with surround sound!) and being able to walk right out onto your own sandy paradise, but we also loved the infinity plunge pool at our lagoon bungalow and being able to grab our snorkel gear and head straight out into the sea; not to mention watching sting rays and reef sharks while lying in the bath! Both rooms were exquisite. Our beach room was number 5 (which we decided was the best in terms of location) and our lagoon bungalow was number 27 (which was quite far up the jetty so very private).

We could not be happier with the experience we had at this resort during our honeymoon. So here is a MASSIVE thanks to Marco, Jihad, Nine Two, Agil, Nashid, Shu, Kudey, Manit and everyone else on the island who made our stay so memorable. One day we hope to come back to Huvafen to see our adopted coral, have more incredible treatments at the ‘Lime’ spa, take more photos from the parasail, enjoy even more world class snorkelling and have yet another incredible dinner at ‘Salt’… fingers crossed!

We 110% recommend Huvafen Fushi, it’s HEAVEN!

We last visited Huvafen Fushi in 2007, and had an amazing time, so when, after some life changing decisions, we decided to have a second honeymoon to me it was obvious where we would go.
There isn't much point in going on about how good the food is (it is), or how good the service is (it is) as most of the reviews seem to cover this, so just a couple of little pointers.
The island is small, but it doesn't feel like it. The sand"ring road" under a canopy of trees makes the island feel a lot bigger than it actually is.
All facilities, (the spa, the gym, the dive centre) are fantastic, if you need anything, you only have to ask. The accommodation, we have stayed in a beach bungalow and an ocean pavilion, is luxurious and couldn't have been made to feel more welcome.
Special mention to Jihad, who, although his name made me stop for a second, was completely charming and the consummate professional.
2 things the website doesn't mention which I really enjoyed: the Spaquarium, and the Cardamon Lounge. Do not miss out on these.
If I had to find fault, it would be the number of Asian guests there, who don't respect the smart casual dining rule. On holidays it's nice to dress up for dinner, especially in such romantic settings, and having a Chinese couple in their swimsuits belching behind you does somewhat ruin the moment.
Once again thanks for all the staff for giving myself and my wife the best holiday we have ever had.

Room Tip: the beach bungalows had a breeze.

went to maldives for honeymoon. stayed at 3 resorts over 14 nights. This was one of them.

The hotel was amazing. Great service and rooms very nice.

Huge complaint about the dive centre. I think it was called Flout, which after some research is by a company called Silver Sands. They were very unprofessional and very rude. We both had our dive licences but yet they claim this was not good enough and we have to take a trial dive. The during the trial dive on the boat, the instructor actually was telling us certain things about diving which were completely wrong and could have put us in danger. We have been on over 40 dives and we were told to hold breath as going down from boat...highly disgusted.

After a bit of research I can see Silversands are actually managing dive shops at a few of the maldives hotels. I would highly advise not going on a dive with them as they are not very good which is a sham as the hotel is amazing and nothing bad to say about the hotel.

There was another issue at another resort with the dive shop, but i will go into that on that hotel page.

Dear Ric L.,

Great to hear that you’ve had an amazing time at Huvafen Fushi! The team and I are delighted to see that you have thoroughly enjoyed our services and the bungalow you stayed in.

We are however highly surprised by your comments on our Dive Centre. This is clearly not our usual approach nor have we ever heard any such comments previously. Needless to say the safety and security of our guests is a number one priority. The fact that our Dive Center is professionally run by Silver Sands is well recognised due to their high standing reputation and standards in the Maldives. We are extremely surprised, considering your dive experience that you chose to share such comments via an anonymous posting such as this, rather than raising this issue at the time directly with us while staying at the resort.

I have personally discussed your allegations with Peter Quilliam, Base Leader of Float (Silver Sands) and he wishes to state that he refutes the comments and that his team would never tell anyone information that would endanger the safety of any guest.

Due to the serious nature of your allegations, I would ask that you contact me directly so I can urgently follow-up specifically and personally.

Sincerely

My husband and I have just returned from spending our 25th wedding anniversary on the island which was very special.
We are in our late forties, the children gone, fit and active and travel extensively usually at the top end of the market. I spent a lot of time researching for a place just that bit more special and certainly think we achieved that.
We stepped of the plane and within an hour were in huvafen. Having been to the Maldives previously with our daughter and getting a seaplane which added hours onto the journey our transfer by boat was fantastic ,just a bit bumpy but all part of the experience.
We had a deluxe beach bungalow number 10 which was lovely, 2 pools one at the front and the other very secluded at the back , with a sunbathing area and outside bath , shower and 2 sinks .As the bungalow has direct access to the beach it was perfect for us as we love the sun and we hardly ever saw anyone else. We were very fortunate to pay to stay in the Pavillion Villa for the last 3 nights, hugely expensive but stunning on its own beach with every high end product you would expect as it has 2 bedrooms it would probably suit a family, with the large swimming pool , outside massage area and even a pool table it was a great way to spend the last few days.
For our anniversary we arranged for a photographer to take photos as the sun set , as people who don't really enjoy posing he did a fantastic job, they were presented to us in a lovely album and will help us to look back at a perfect evening . We had the in room dining which was set up on our bit of beach , lit by candles , it was very romantic, the chef cooked for us seafood and steak , we were so full we didn't even have desert, When we were finished they even gave us a bouquet of flowers and a chocolate cake saying "Happy Anniversary ". Special thanks go to our Thakuru Makif and deputy manager Makessh they did a great job of helping us celebrate what is these days quite an achievment. Thank you all.
The resort is very quiet , but as people leading busy lives we don't actually like to be around a lot of people , the only time we really saw anyone was in the evening at Umbar and dinner.
We ate in Raw once which was great ,all the cooking is done for you to see . We sat at our table and saw a reef shark swimming around ,very surreal !
WE often saw reef sharks and stingrays swimming a few feet in the sea .
Celcius was great for breakfast anything you could wish for , lunch we tended to order to our room. The evenings in Celcius we found a bit of a let down ,not the food that was fine, just the ambience was a bit lacking . I don't think this was helped by the vast number of asian guests who think it appropriate to eat there dinner in beach wear etc . I kid you not on our last night there was a chinese man in his vest and boxer shorts , wierd . It doesn't take 5 mins to put on a clean pair of shorts etc or dress, its obviously a cultural thing but one that needs to be addressed if the want to keep the place just that little bit more upmarket.
As we wanted to be away for our actual anniversary we had to travel in September when the weather is not always at its best , we checked BBC weather for about a week before leaving and started to wonder if we had done the right thing , but we had great weather only rain one afternoon and believe me when we saw a cloud you were quite glad of it.
The only other gripe we had was with the service charge 8% tax and 10% service charge was added to eveything a little bit irritating when you have paid so much for the holiday any way but you do know this in advance. All drinks are expensive especially wine but it is a Muslim country and there aren't any vineyards in the Maldives !
All in all Huvafen is lovely , you could buy a family car for what it cost us but they made us feel very special. The service is second to none miles better than you get in the carribean. Would we return ,most definately . Thankyou all .

Room Tip: If you can stretch to a deluxe beach bungalow do , especially 10 , 12 , 13 , 14 15 . Number 11 is t...

We have just come back from a week here for our honeymoon and absolutely loved it.

The rooms are amazing, the service is fantastic and the food exceeded our expectations. The staff could not have been more attentive in ensuring we had a great time (Chainy and the wonderfully-named Mami particularly) and their attitude is echoed at the top of the management chain which is refreshing. It is a peaceful and very romantic place that will pleasantly surprise even those used to 5 star hotels

Only gripe is the 18% paid on everything (10% service and 8% tax). To be fair it is mentioned on all price lists and I would expect this to be added on dinners etc, just on watersports, spa treatment, mini bar etc its a bit unusual and I would rather it was included in price lists.

Overall though a magical experience. My wife was actually in tears as we left! Thanks to all at the resort for a memorable experience!
