I cannot review the hotel without mentioning the awesome feeling that you get on seeing the vast blue sea dotted by small islands and lagoons just before landing. Wow...what a beautiful place!! The speed boat ride that followed was thrilling and we also saw a school of dolphins on our way. The speed boat captain was kind enough to stop the speed boat to get a better glimpse. On reaching the resort, we were held spell bound by the long jetty and the colorful fishes in the shallow waters. Although we reached there at 1, we had to wait for an hour as the room was not done. We were given Superior Beach Bungalow # 121 even though I had requested for a room between 280 and 300. Room 121 did not have great views but it was near the lagoon. Later our request was accepted and we were given Room 281. Now, this is how a "superior" room should be. Better views, better upholstery, and cleaner!
Food: we had taken a half board package and enjoyed it. We visited the various restaurants for lunch. Found the Italian restaurant to be the best. Beer and water are priced same!
Activities: We were here for 4 nights and we had plenty of time in our hands. Took snorkeling training on the first day. People who know swimming need not do this. But those guys are professionals and they know the best snorkeling spots. That's the only plus. Met another couple who directly took the snorkeling excursion and they told us that even they were taught the basics. Did canoeing the day after and it was amazing to watch the sunset in a canoe. Did not do anything the day after (I guess that's what a vacation is meant to be). Did diving and I must say, it was simply AWESOME esp. the deep sea part. You don't have to know swimming to dive. My wife didn't know swimming yet she thoroughly enjoyed it. Diving is worth an experience. We took the package with a camera to capture the experience of our lifetime.
Our flight got delayed and we had about 4 hours after reaching the airport, so our hotel staff appointed a local guide and did a little sight seeing of the capital - Male. Took lots of souvenirs from a local shop. They were much better and cheaper than the ones you get in the resort. But, do this only if you have time between your check-out and your flight. Else, buy the souvenirs at the resort.
- Carry a few snack items, packaged water in your check-in luggage.
- Check the mini bar as soon as you check-in and inform the reception if you find anything missing from the list else you'll be charged.
- Carry US dollars. It is the most widely accepted currency in Maldives.
- Carry water proof sun screens with high SPF
- Carry goggles and a hat.
- Go for half board package.
- Pack your luggage the night before your departure. The guys start clearing your room exactly at 11.
- Inform the reception about your birthdays and anniversaries if they are during the stay.
- Better carry your own snorkeling gear, its cheaper to buy it than rent it at $14 / day!
Beach bungalow rooms no 280-300 are the best. Although there's no diving area in front of them b...
