“Brilliant place- fantastic, unpretentious food, nice atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2013

This place is a little gem. We visited with friends during a recent trip to Derbyshire as it had been recommended to us by several people. It's a traditional, cosy and fairly 'no frills' pub serving unpretentious food, cooked really well. There was a good selection of ales, the menu was not extensive (possibly owing to being a Sunday), and was fairly traditional. I'd always rather have a smaller menu where the food is dependably good, than a larger, more hit and miss selection, anyway. Our friends had roasts and we had burgers- I ordered the traditional beef, and my husband had the pork and apple burger. Both were really generous, served on a plate the size of a roof-slate and absolutely delicious. All the ingredients were fresh and the chips were very well done. Just the thing after a day exploring the Peak District! It was busy, but service was friendly and prompt, and prices were very reasonable too, for the portion size. Would definitely return, and can heartily recommend the Red Lion if you're staying nearby.

“Fab 'olde worlde' pub”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2013

Excellent little real ale pub. I called in there after a cold and rather breezy walk and was greeted by an atmospheric tap room with my one of my favourite real ales on tap.
The staff were friendly and the menu looked great. I have taken the number and will be booking a table soon!

“Gone downhill....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2013

This pub used to be SO good for food so I was really disappointed to have a terrible meal there since the new owners have changed the menu. £10 for 3 dry vegetarian sausages, plain mash and jelly-like gravy. No vegetables????!!! Not even garden peas! My friend had the burger, which was dreadful - so dry... and the coleslaw included big random chunks of onion?! Presented nicely but who's bothered about that when the taste/value for money just isn't right??

I have to say the service was great, the atmosphere is lovely and it's still a gem of a pub. I just hope and pray the new owners recognise this quickly and turn it around - or I don't doubt we'll be seeing more and more reviews like this on here in the future.

“Drinks rather than food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2013 via mobile

We looked forward to our meal at Litton however the food did not live up to the hype. Very average burger, although served on a chopping board for effect the bread was certainly not home made and burger dry. The pub is a locals pub best suited to drinking.
