Fantails is an old building converted into a restaurant in the village of Wetheral. The food is sublime and if you're a meat fan you must try the shoulder of lamb. It falls apart it is so tender. They also do their version of a beef wellington which is also worth a try. The general menu would suit all tastes and the staff are friendly and happy to talk about the local area, should you wish it. Very extenvise wine list a reasonable prices and just to put icing on the cake, they have Warsteiner German bier.
It's 2 miles off the M6 and well worth a visit if you are in the area.
