“Breakfast on Sunday morning was a nightmare...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2012

Whilst our recently refurbished room was ok (bad lighting for makeup girls!), with a nice view of the fields...the Sunday morning breakfast was a complete shambles - plenty of staff running around but the duty manager seemed to be doing all the work. When you know you have a full house on a Saturday night - it cannot be difficult to predict volume for the next morning breakfast session.
If they grilled the bacon and suasages rather than place them in a tray in the oven - it might be more appealing! The toaster was slow and did only one side - I gave up waiting, lost interest and walked out.
Admittedly, the duty manager understood our complaints and said there were 'staff issues' and he gave us a discount on our room bill.
Get your breakfast act together and train your staff better!

Room Tip: Ask for a refurbished room!

We stayed at The Mill Hotel on the night of 20th November, nice hotel but needs a bit of tweaking we had asked for a room on the lower floors due to a disablement and were give a room on the 3rd floor no lifts as its very old building we managed but only just were told the heating was not working on the ground floor so no heating or hot water, our room was nice enough clean and tidy however the view overlooking the houses across the road from the Hotel was not the best. We did not eat in the Hotel in the evening as we saw the previous reviews and after checking the menu the prices which were quite high we headed into the town and had very very good fish and chips at the Cod Father which worked out for two of us the price of just one main course at the hotel. Breakfast was Ok but cold as there were no lids on any of the food trays which were overflowing with food if the chef perhaps cooked a little less the lids would have fitted, the food would not be cold. Check out was fine and we were able to keep the room on for an extra 1/2 hour until we left to attend a funeral. We had planned to go for a walk along the river but the weather was terrible so it did not happen but I am sure it would have been very nice on a sunny day. Staff were helpful and friendly the reception, bar and stairwells were clean but could do with a bit of a refurbishment chipped paint etc etc but on the whole would stay again and for the price good value for money.

Room Tip: ask for a room with a view of the river and meadow.

We visited this hotel on a deal - and ended up being reminded of that old saying 'you get what you pay for'. The room had a very good view over the water -m we couldn't complain about it. However trhe food in the resaurant took ages to arrive - and upon sampling it we knew it was a mistake. furthermore there looked like what was a pre-booked coach party (en-route to another destination) who were treated to waht appeared to be a highre level of service. The staff don't seem to have received meaningful training in how to address a guests complaint!

the hotel is well appointed and commands a great view of the historic Water Meadows - The service on the other hand needs work.

I complained about the quality of my breakfast only to be told there was no manger on site and I could leave a note for 'someone' to get back to me. It looked like the hotel can't hold on to managers as I later found out that this one had left.

Shame attention to detail is what sets hotels apart and there was little attention to detail when I stayed

Stayed here while on business, found the room very comfortable, VERY QUITE and had a fire escape that was propped open outside my door which was great if you wanted fresh air etc. Only Downside was Parking.

I have never stayed here but do like occasional Sunday lunch here when I can get the time off work and it is good food.

Shame its not walking distance, but then we are blessed with better restaurants in Melford.

Have stayed at The Mill several times in the last ten years, have eaten here and met friends here for drinks. For some reason the hotel always seemed to be a little tattier on each visit---but, this time (after a take over by a new company) all seems brighter and better.
Seems new owners are refurbing and moving from room to room and improving. Good luck to them, this is a hotel that must survive!

Room Tip: Go for executive rooms, if you are tall avoid top floor rooms!
