There is nothing that irritates me more than booking accommodation from a website that states / promises certain things and then when one arrives at the place it is not as written.
Mymering advertises itself on their website as a lavender and rosemary farm. There is no longer any lavender. The host explained that due to bad weather conditions in the recent past it all had to be removed and now vineyards are being planted. This work was in progress during our visit - which was noisy with tractors and machinery. The website also states that husband and wife team are there to look after your needs. This is also not the case as there is no longer a wife on the property...... In fact, the property does not belong to the host any more - it has been sold and he is managing (the new owners decision for the new vineyards...?) Now it would not take much effort nor time to change their website to the correct and true information - would it? And guests would then be aware of the change and not expect something that is no longer there.
However, with the above in mind the farm is still a beautiful place. Situated in a valley with a ring of mountains surrounding, and beautiful trees, aloes and stunning views it was a reasonably pleasant stay.
The nearby town of Ladismith is not much to write home about, but the reason we stayed in the area was to do the Seweweekspoort - which is a magnificent drive through the Klein Swartberge mountains. A 'poort' goes through the natural cutting at the mountains base rather that a 'pass' which goes over the the mountains. So in the poort the mountains closely hang hundreds of metres above and on either side of the road that winds through. The scenery is spectacular and well worth the 20km drive through and 20km drive back again...
Back to the B&B - we stayed in the cottage - which is two bedroomed, lounge and kitchen. Can stay on a self-catering basis. It was comfortable accommodation with all necessities supplied. My only complaint is the shower which is small and cramped and the towel rail which is a wooden wobbly affair that is completely impractical. The outside of the cottage leads onto a small lawn and then the shrubs and wild vegetation which is very lovely. There is a large verandah leading off the bedrooms.
There are also two guest rooms on the property - which appeared to be very comfortable.
The breakfast was miniscule in comparison to other b&b's. The portions and choice were very small.
The host was friendly, helpful and available.
I would recommend this place as good - but be aware of the changes - and I expect once the new owners take over there will be more....?
