“Never disappointed, a proper country pub with great food!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2012

The Tuckers manages to be very much a local pub, whilst at the same time offers food of fantastic quality. It's not cheap, but it is worth it - with generous portions of well prepared food. I've always found them friendly, the service is excellent, and the choice of food is excellent. This has become a regular haunt, and well worth visiting the village for!

Thick warm walls, deeply comfortable chairs grouped around fine tables in three low-beamed dining areas, and a domed niche in which to enjoy a drink, the Tuckers Arms has for seven centuries extended its exceptional welcome to its villagers and travellers crossing the bridge over the stream rippling by. It is the English pub at its very best, exuding history and hospitality with considerable ease and authority. The menu is extensive and excitingly original. Where else would the soup of the day be celeriac and pear as it was today? The preparation and presentation are first class and the portions generous. The local Otter ale is the perfect match. The chef's steak and ale pudding was a quiet perfection, and on previous occasions we have cooed over his belly of pork and black pudding. Excellent value for food and comfort of this quality.

Visited on a Friday Lunchtime. I am glad my brother in law was driving as this inn is really tucked away. My husband and I had sea Bass which was very good. My husband does not usually go for Sea bass but he really enjoyed it. My brother inlaw had Sausages and mash in an onion gravy which he thoroughly enjoyed. My sister in law just wanted a light lunch and asked for a crab sandwich. The crab was mixed with peppers which she does not like and when she mentioned this they made her one without the peppers. The service was good and the deserts were scrummy.

we have stayed a few times at The tuckers Inn...helpful hosts.First evening meal was superb, but we went for the roast on the Sunday evening, and it was obviously re-heated from the lunch.Roast potatoes and yorkshire pudding were un-edible..Will always stay here when in the area, but avoid the Sunday leftovers..

We found the Butchers Arms the day before our holiday ended and wished we had experienced it sooner. The food was excellent with a varied menu and the service we received was pleasant and helpful. This lovely old country pub deserves a visit and we will certainly be returning in the future.

Room Tip: We did not stay but ate here in the evening. Due to the age of the building (1600s) the ceilings ar...

Atmosphere lovely and relaxing.. Food i haven't tasted such a nice dish in a long time ...if you love seafood you will love the crab open ravioli to start... Sea bass and Scallops for main, absolutely perfect with a lovely sauce. Quick, polite, and helpful service. Excellent in every respect. . Cant wait for another celebration to go back again, must think of a reason....... R. Axminster
