“Fabulous stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2014

Recently stayed here for two nights whilst visiting the area. An old building rich in character and history. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable, and waking up to a view overlooking the Cathedral was something else. The staff were very attentive without being overbearing, my,partner had been in contact with the hotel and had arranged for a surprise birthday cake for me which was fabulous and looked too god to eat . Food was excellent and the variety at breakfast would satisy anyones appetite. The hotel has so much more potential as it is not obvious to people passing by and could attract much more trade from visitors to the cathedral opposite. Highly recommended.

I have to agree with you, waking up to the majestic Ripon cathedral is just spectacular. I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay with us and the birthday cake went down a treat - I helped your partner organise it and I have to admit, I had to stop myself taking a slice home for myself! Unfortunately our position in Ripon does slightly hide us away, especially if you're a new visitor to Ripon; but thank you for your comments and we are looking into ways to draw people over from the cathedral currently. We look forward to welcoming you back here soon.

Kind regards,
Chris - Manager

I never knew the City of Ripon existed ! and seeing the size and interior of the Cathedral early on a sunlit Easter morning ...wow.
The Old Deanery is immediately adjacent to the Cathedral, parking is easy, the welcome great and very relaxing. Such a refreshing change from the corporate world of hotels is this family run establishment. Breakfast was fantastic.
If you get the chance to visit and stay you won't forget the Hotel or the City.

Its so nice to hear you had such a great time on your first visit to Ripon and during your stay at here The Old Deanery. I can't think of a better way to see Ripon cathedral for the first time than at Easter! I'm very pleased that our independently run hotel was a refreshing change for you, a point which is shared by many of our guests. We look forward to welcoming you back soon.

A Hotel full of character which exceeded all expectation. The spacious bedroom had a very comfortable bed, a bathroom with roll top bath and Molten Brown toiletries. Great choice for breakfast and plenty of it. Evening meal, sufficient choice, good quality food, presented well. The staff were all very pleasant and attentive. We were given information on a Ripon tradition 'The Horn Blower' each night at 9pm in the square. Thank you for ensuring my Big Birthday was memorable and enjoyable. We will be back.

Room Tip: All rooms have character of their own, some overlook the garden others overlook the cathedral

We found the Old Deanery on Trip Advisor and were so glad we did. It is directly across the street from the minster and we had an amazing view of it for our window. The home has historical significance and it has been very well maintained. The beds were comfortable, the breakup fasts were filling, abundant and delicious. It's also a really good deal to include dinner with your stay.

Room Tip: No elevator and some rooms require walking up many stairs.

We had a school reunion at The Old Deanery this past weekend. The hotel staff were warm and welcoming and could not do enough for us. Our meals were beautifully prepared and served in the wonderful dining room. After a good night's sleep in our well-appointed rooms, we were well-fortified by a full Yorkshire breakfast for a ramble around Fountains Abbey. Ripon itself has so much to offer, and The Old Deanery is a good place to stay and visit the delightful Cathedral across the street, and the surrounding areas. Thanks to Linda and her great team for a memorable weekend. We'll be back!

Room Tip: Ask for the four poster! The views from the higher floors are worth the climb.

Had been to the Old Deanery about 14 years ago, and wondered what it would be like after so many years. We were not disappointed:, the building and décor are impressive as ever, the food was delicious, good value, decent sized portions, and helpful and friendly staff.
thank you very much, we are looking forward to returning.

Room Tip: as we live in Knaresborough, we didn't need a room!

We are so glad you weren't disappointed upon your return to The Old Deanery after such a long time - I think in that time quite a few things have changed but while still keeping the historic charm of the building you will have experienced on your last visit. I will pass on your compliments to the staff both front of house and in the kitchen, your kind words are very much appreciated. We look forward to welcoming you back soon!

We came back to the Deanery for our wedding anniversary this year, and we were made to feel so welcome. The staff are always so friendly, it's like being in a home from home. I honestly believe The Deanery is a hidden gem, with beautiful rooms, great location with the backdrop of the Cathedral, gorgeous food and impressive service. I know we will be coming back year after year.
