“Fantastic weekend getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2012

I've just spent an amazing weekend away at the Glendon Guest House in Matlock. It was a very lucky last minute find as a destination for a catch up for 3 good friends. We were amongst the first to stay here after the new owners had taken over and totally revamped the guest house.
Our every need was catered for including gluten free and vegetarian diets. The bedroom was beautiful and spacious, the beds ridiculously comfortable and the bathroom relaxing with luxury toiletries. The only sound was the river winding its way through the wooded area behind the house. We were welcomed professionally yet as if old friends and encouraged to make ourselves at home over a bottle of wine in the impressively stylish yet comfortable guest lounge. To me it looked like a room straight out of an ideal home magazine!
The breakfast/dining room was light, elegant and again beautifully and creatively decorated. The original features of the Victorian house have been kept whilst creating a fresh modern twist. Our breakfast was pure indulgence and enjoyed immensely, fresh coffee pots just kept coming.
We were given advice on where to visit, where to walk and where to eat which was so very helpful indeed. Excellent restaurants and pubs were in very close range as was a park filled with family entertainment.
I would love to revisit as we were shown all the rooms and it's perfect place for a family weekend in the Peaks, a friends' reunion or a romantic get away. The prices are very reasonable for the standard of what could easily be described as a boutique but non pretentious guest house.

Room Tip: The family/group room was very spacious.

Wow we were so lucky to find this place and I believe some of the first guests to stay there too. This should really be classed as a boutique hotel, our room (the family room) was to die for, beautifully decorated and with the most plush, luxurious bedding and comfortable beds, even including the bunk beds. We had a gorgeous view out over the church and the river and everything had been thought of down to the complimentary toiletries and tea and biscuits (including even a gluten free option for me both days).

Breakfast was a gastronomic delight with several great choices in the most elegant dining room and again my gluten free requirements had all been taken into account way above and beyond what I had expected.

I cannot rate the welcome we received enough either, the hosts are as welcoming as you could possibly expect.

The sitting room too was a fantastic place for us to catch up over a bottle of wine.

Book now before it gets booked up!
